The UIC Franc (code: XFU) was a virtual currency unit used by the International Union of Railways (UIC). It was introduced in 1976 after the Gold Franc was abandoned for this purpose due to instability of the international monetary system,{{cite book|author=Bernard de Fontgalland|title=The World Railway System|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=PHrIOBvxd8QC&pg=PA151|date=8 November 1984|publisher=Cambridge University Press|isbn=978-0-521-24541-8|pages=151–}} and was replaced by the European Currency Unit on 1 January 1990.{{cite journal|title=Intercontainer opts for the ECU|journal=Rail International|year=1990|volume=21|page=34}}

The code XFU was not withdrawn from the ISO-4217 currency list until 2013, despite the UIC franc having long fallen out of use.{{cite web|title=ISO 4217 Amendment Number 157|url=https://www.six-group.com/dam/download/financial-information/data-center/iso-currrency/amendments/dl_currency_iso_amendment_157.pdf|date=7 November 2013|access-date=2 April 2016}}
