UN Spanish Language Day ({{Langx|es|Día del Idioma Español en las Naciones Unidas}}) is observed annually on 23 April.{{Cite web |title=List of International Days and Weeks |url=https://www.un.org/en/observances/list-days-weeks |access-date=2023-02-09 |website=United Nations}} The event was established by the UN's Department of Public Information in 2010,{{Cite press release |title=Department of Public Information to Launch 'Language Days at the United Nations' |date=2010-02-19 |publisher=United Nations |url=https://press.un.org/en/2010/obv853.doc.htm |language=en |url-status=live |archive-date=2023-02-09 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20230209200421/https://press.un.org/en/2010/obv853.doc.htm}} seeking "to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six of its official working languages throughout the organization". The day was first observed on 12 October to celebrate the {{Lang|es|Día de la Hispanidad}} in some Spanish-speaking countries for the discovery of American continent.
