Road signs at the western end of the time zone on the Eyre Highway advise travellers to adjust their clocks by 45 minutes.{{cite web|title=Central Western Standard Time: The Time Zone You Won't Find on a Map|url=http://basementgeographer.com/central-western-standard-time-the-time-zone-you-wont-find-on-a-map/|website=Basement Geographer|access-date=18 January 2016|url-status=bot: unknown|archive-url=https://archive.today/20160505150909/http://basementgeographer.com/central-western-standard-time-the-time-zone-you-wont-find-on-a-map/|archive-date=5 May 2016}}

The use of this timezone dates back to at least 1935. The April 1935 Commonwealth Railways public timetable shows that 'Central Time' was used by that government organisation between Wynbring (in the East; Localities on the Trans-Australian Railway) and Rawlinna (in the West). Passengers were advised to advance/retard their watches by 45 minutes each night on their journey.Travel in comfort across Australia on the Trans Australian Railway, Commonwealth Railways, April 1935

UTC+08:45 is used in five places in Australia, including Border Village in South Australia, as well as Cocklebiddy, Eucla, Madura and Mundrabilla in Western Australia. It runs from just east of the South Australian border to shortly east of Caiguna. It is included in the tz database with designator Australia/Eucla.

However, Arubiddy Station, northwest of Cocklebiddy, uses UTC+09:00.{{cite web|url=https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-03-30/central-western-time-eucla-time-second-time-zone-in-wa/103243096|title=Central Western Time, affectionately known as 'Eucla time', is WA's lesser-known second time zone|date=30 March 2024|first1=Samantha|last1=Goerling|first2=Andrew|last2=Collins|work=ABC Great Southern|quote=To simplify the matter, Arubbidy Station — located between Balladonia and Eucla — operates off its own time, distinct to Eucla time, according to owner Matthew Lewis. "If you go through Caiguna, [the sign] says move your clocks back 45 minutes. We say we're not that smart really so we just go with one hour, so we're one hour on from WA," he said.}}
