Unasuchus is an extinct genus of Early Cretaceous eusuchian belonging to the family Hylaeochampsidae. The genus is named after Uña, a municipality in central Spain where fossils have been found.{{cite journal |last=Ortega |first=F. |author2=Moratalla, J.J. |author3=Buscalioni, A. |author4=Sanz, J.L. |author5=Jiménez, S. |author6= Valbuena, J. |year=1996 |title=Sobre la presencia de un cocodrilo fósil (Crocodylomorpha: Neosuchia: Goniopholis sp.) en la cuenca de Cameros (Cretácico inferior: Vadillos-San Román de Cameros, La Rioja) |journal=Zubía |volume=14 |pages=113–120}}

Discovery and classification

Unasuchus is known only from skull and jaw fragments, meaning that it initially defied precise classification within Crocodyliformes, but the cladistic analysis of Turcosuchus recovers Unasuchus as a derived hylaeochampsid.{{cite journal |last=Martin |first=J.E. |author2=Delfino, M. |year=2010 |title=Recent advances in the comprehension of the biogeography of Cretaceous European eusuchians |journal=Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology |volume=293 |issue=3 |pages=406–418 |doi=10.1016/j.palaeo.2009.10.021|bibcode=2010PPP...293..406M }}{{cite journal |author1=Stéphane Jouve |author2=Volkan Sarıgül |author3=J.-Sébastien Steyer |author4=Sevket Sen |year=2017 |title=The first crocodylomorph from the Mesozoic of Turkey (Barremian of Zonguldak) and the dispersal of the eusuchians during the Cretaceous |journal=Journal of Systematic Palaeontology |volume=17 |issue=2 |pages=111–128 |doi=10.1080/14772019.2017.1393469 |s2cid=90379747 |url=https://figshare.com/articles/dataset/The_first_crocodylomorph_from_the_Mesozoic_of_Turkey_Barremian_of_Zonguldak_and_the_dispersal_of_the_eusuchians_during_the_Cretaceous/5657947 |url-access=subscription }} These remains have been found from the Barremian Las Hoyas Formation.{{cite book |last=Sanz |first=J.L. |author2=Fregenal-Martínez, M.A. |author3=Meléndez, N. |author4= Ortega, F. |year=2001 |chapter=3.4.9 Las Hoyas |title=Palaeobiology II |editor1=Briggs, D.E.G. |editor2=Crowther, P.R. |publisher=Wiley-Blackwell |pages=356–359 |isbn=9780632051496}} The type species, U. reginae, was named in 1992.
