==[[Template:Citation|<nowiki>{{Citation }}</nowiki>]] template==

  • N.B. {{cite}} is deprecated. See {{Template:Citation}}
  • Variables are name/value pairs, where name is always l.c.: | name=value
  • Vars include first, last, authorlink (no brackets), coauthors, title, series, journal, volume, issue, date, location, etc.
  • Most text vars (but not authorlink) can be wlinks with square brackets
  • Link vars: url, doi, isbn, issn, jstor, etc.

==Harvard references: [[Template:Sfn|<nowiki>{{sfn}}</nowiki>]] and [[Template:Harv|<nowiki>{{Harv}}</nowiki>]]==

Sfn (Short footnote) creates author-date footnotes linking to the references list.

  • {{sfn|Turner|1851|pp=10–11}} produces this note: 1. ^Turner 1851, pp. 10–11
  • Use either p= or pp=

Harv (Harvard reference) inserts parenthetical citations in the text. It supports multiple authors.

  • {{Harv|Adams|Brown|Collins|Davis|2001|pp=13-31}} produces (Adams et al. 2001, pp. 13-31)

Harvtxt is for direct reference to a work in the text.

  • {{Harvtxt|Turner|1851}} asserted that....
  • Turner (1851) asserted that....

Harvnb is for direct reference without brackets or parens.

  • {{Harvnb|Turner|1851}}, not to be confused with....
  • Turner 1851, not to be confused with....

Did you know?

DYK is only for articles that have been created within the last 5 days. Ideally, they should have been listed on "New Pages" during that time, but former redirects, stubs, or other short articles that have been greatly expanded are also encouraged (as a guideline, an expansion of five-fold or more is acceptable; the decision on whether an expanded article is appropriate for the template will depend on the updating administrator's judgment). For those workpages first developed in user space, the date the workpage is posted to article namespace may be counted as the first day towards the DYK 5 day rule. You may wish to consider adding {{workpage}} to the top of the workpage.

  • {{Recentism | section | date=date}}
  • {{Expand section | 1=with more examples and source citations | with=more examples and source citations | for=reason | section=(number of the section after TOC, for editing link) | date=date | small=no | talksection=talksection}}

=[[WP:DAB|Disambiguation]]=

Naming: When there is no primary topic, a dab page should be called Topic, not Topic (disambiguation)

Linking: When deliberately linking to a dab page, always link to Topic (disambiguation, whether or not the article actually includes (disambiguation) in its title.

This prevents the link from appearing as an error needing to be bot-fixed. It also lets attentive readers know that the link will take them to a disambiguation page. The policy is at WP:INTDABLINK.

==Hatnotes==

==Dab pages==

  • {{disambig}} at bottom of most pages
  • {{hndis|Name}} for bottom of a personal name dab page
  • {{Geodis}} at bottom of a geographical dab page
