Tasks
BHGbot's tasks do not require administrator status, and approval will be sought before any extension of BHGbot's role that requires admin privileges.
If you find that for some reason BHGbot is making inappropriate edits, please immediately [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:BHGbot&action=edit§ion=new&preload=User_talk:BHGbot/stopmsg&editintro=User_talk:BHGbot/stopheader&autosummary=Please%20stop%20the%20bot stop the bot] by posting a message to User talk:BHGbot. A brief "please stop" message will stop the bot; your longer explanation of the problem can follow once the bot is stopped.
= Authorised tasks =
- Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/BHGbot 6: Implement MOS:CATORDER for eponymous categories, and/or fix sort key per WP:Categorization#Guidelines_for_articles_with_eponymous_categories.
First run completed on 30 June 2020. Lists of pages to edit are at User:BHGbot/6. Another run is needed soon.
- Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/BHGbot 7. Create category redirects to resolve the ENGVAR s/z spelling of "organisation"/"organization".
- First run underway. 12,420 redirect pages to create: see User:BHGbot/7/List 1
= Tasks pending approval =
- Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/BHGbot 8: remove all uses of {{tl|Bare URL inline}} from a page, and add {{tl|Cleanup bare URLs}} unless it is already present. This is because both User:Citation bot and WP:reFill skip bare URLs tagged with {{tl|Bare URL inline}}. So the inline tag identifies bare URLs, but impedes a fix. The banner tag {{tl|Cleanup bare URLs}} does not impede the tools.
= Previous tasks =
- Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/BHGbot 5: diffusing :Category:Directorial debut films to by-year categories.
:{{done}} Job done, in 5499 edits: see [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions/BHGbot&offset=202004032055&dir=next&target=BHGbot&limit=500 this contribs list and its earlier pages].
- Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/BHGbot 4: When a portal has been deleted at MFD, remove or replace links to it which are generated by one of 4 templates: {{tl|Portal}}, {{tl|Portal bar}}, {{tl|Portal-inline}}, {{tl|Subject bar}}. Use the next-most specific portal if available, otherwise remove the link(s). In most cases I have flagged this at the MFD.
This task is run whenever a portal is deleted.
Note: authorisation for this task was revoked in January 2020,[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Bots/Requests_for_approval/BHGbot_4&diff=937426200&oldid=924561626] at BHG's request[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=937425282].
= Ancient tasks =
BHGbot was created in 2007 for a single purpose: to tag the talk pages of articles and categories with tags which identify the articles as being within the scope of a particular WikiProject. These tasks were discontinued in 2009.
- Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/BHGbot did tagging for WikiProject Ireland.
- Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/BHGbot 2 did tagging for WikiProject Gaelic Games..
However, BHGbot will only tag articles with the explicit consent of the WikiProject whose tags are being added, within the scope agreed on the talk page of that WikiProject.
BHGbot will not add an assessment value to the tags (either to the "class" or "importance" parameters) except for "class=category" for categories, and "class=stub" for articles in :Category:Ireland stubs or its child categories. In all other cases, the result of BHGbot's work should tag articles as unassessed, to bring them to the attention of human assessors.
Jobs
{{Collapse top|Job lists from 2008/09}}
= Proposed =
- Job0008: add {{tl|GaelicGamesProject}} banner to talk pages on a list supplied by User:Gnevin
= Completed =
- {{done}} Job0001: add {{tl|WikiProject Ireland category}} to subcategories of :Category:Geography of Ireland
- {{done}} Job0002: On category talk pages, manually replace {{tl|WikiProject Ireland}} with {{tl|WikiProject Ireland category}}
- {{done}} Job0003: add {{tl|WikiProject Ireland category}} to remaining subcategories of :Category:Ireland
- {{done}} Job0004: Applying the {{tl|UK Parliamentary Constituencies}} tag to talk pages of all articles and categories :Category:United Kingdom Parliamentary constituencies and its subcategories, skipping any talk pages already tagged
- {{done}} Job0007: Tagging with
all articles in :Category:Ireland stubs and its subcategories, except those which are already tagged with {{tl|WikiProject Ireland}} or its aliases {{tl|Irelandproj}} and {{tl|WPIRELAND}}. This job assumes that all articles with a stub tag are indeed of stub class. This may not be the case, but if so, the class can be upgraded on assessment; the articles are being tagged with the{{ WikiProject Ireland |class=stub}} auto=yes
parameter, which places them in :Category:Automatically assessed Ireland articles.
== Proposed but abandoned ==
There was no response from WikiProject Northern Ireland to these proposed jobs:
- Job0005: add {{tl|WPNI category}} to subcategories of :Category:Northern Ireland which are not already tagged
- Job0006: Replacing all instances of
with the new {{tl|WPNI category}} tag, which does not include assessment fields for priority/importance. This will ensure that the categories are still listed in :Category:WikiProject Northern Ireland categories, but avoid cluttering :Category:Unknown-importance Northern Ireland-related articles and :Category:WikiProject Northern Ireland articles with categories, which do not need an importance rating{{ WPNI|class=cat}}
