Use gender-neutral language where this can be done with clarity and precision. This does not apply to direct quotations or the titles of works ({{xt|The Ascent of Man}}), which are of course not to be altered; nor where all referents are of one gender, such as in an all-female school ({{xt|When any student breaks that rule, she loses privileges}}). Do not use replacements for he or she, such as {{!xt|zie}} and {{!xt|hir}}, or any other artificial gender-neutral pronouns.
