Mark Pallen is Professor of Microbial Genomics at the University of Warwick, England. Pallen's research interests focus on bacterial genomics and type-III secretion. He was senior editor of the book, [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ABookSources&isbn=978-1555814519 Bacterial Pathogenomics] and author of [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17943120 a review article] of the same name in the journal [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nature_(journal) Nature]. He also written several articles on flagellar evolution, often countering creationist claims that the bacterial flagellum is intelligently designed.

In 1996, Pallen led a team of scientists to victory in the UK TV quiz show, University Challenge.
