Christopher Douglas Hess (born October 15, 1960 in Orange California) lives in Lawrence Kansas and is the owner of the [http://www.neetmoto.com NEET Motorcycle Institute]. Following his undergraduate studies in religion and philosophy at Southwest Baptist University in 1982, he served in the U.S. Army first as an enlisted infantryman and then as a commissioned field artillery officer.
After the Army, Hess began a fifteen year career with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Kansas City, Kansas where he was a project manager. He supervised the agency's relocation into 34,000 square feet of adjoining space on Minnesota Avenue in 1990 and later was the lead project manager for construction of the laboratory and its successful effort to become the first [http://www.usgbc.org/DisplayPage.aspx?CategoryID=19 LEED]rated laboratory in the United States. He obtained a masters degree in Marketing in 1990 at Webster University.
During his tenure at the EPA, Hess also became the first certified specialist in martial arts conditioning in the United States which led to publication of his book, "[http://openlibrary.org/b/OL8719593M/Total_Quality_Martial_Arts Total Quality Martial Arts]" (Multimedia, 1999). He was a magazine freelance writer from 1994-2000 and authored over 300 articles.
During 2002-2004, Hess became president of the Kansas Cycling Association along with founding a 501(c)3 faith-based organization, "Anam Gathering."
Hess left the EPA in 2004 and now works as a public involvement liaison for the Kansas Department of Transportation in Topeka, Kansas. While there, he also served as the director for the 2006 USA Cycling National Collegiate Cycling Championships and served as head coach of the Kansas University cycling team from 2004 - 2007. Afterwards, he became a certified RiderCoach through the Motorcycle Safety Foundation in October 2007 and then founded the NEET Motorcycle Institute in Lawrence, Kansas.
He has held or possesses certifications as a black belt and licensed Shotokan Karate instructor, credit counselor, elite licensed coach (USA Cycling), master facilitator and ordained minister. He served in a variety of positions on behalf of the USA Triathlon Midwest Region since 2004 including its Regional Athlete Development Coordinator, treasurer and newsletter editor.
Hess has also written unpublished books including "The Red Letter Study," "The Anam Gathering Chronicles," and "One Step Beyond."
He is married to Kerri Lynn Hess (born March 6, 1967), a Family and Consumer Sciences teacher and is the father of Hannah Bronston Hess (born September 8, 1983).
