He also played against Australia at Murrayfield, on the 15 February 1958. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1957%E2%80%9358_Australia_rugby_union_tour_of_Britain,_Ireland_and_France

He had a novel way of training players to remain low when mauling. Mr Swan was one of a few (if not the only one) who was able during the National Schoolboys Championships in Adelaide to win their first game and play against the tier one sides of Queensland, NSW, ACT. :TOUR TO SYDNEY/NEWCASTLE 10th to 19th MAY 1974

:An exchange of visits between the Newcastle Waratahs and the Adelaide Waratahs commenced in 1973. At the request of the Newcastle Waratahs, it was agreed that it should become an annual event with the Under 16 side.Official letter from the Waratahs Junior Rugby Football Club. (WJRUFC) signed by A. M. Blackburne titled UNDER 16 TEAM - TOUR TO SYDNEY/NEWCASTLE 10TH to 19th MAY 1974.

:It Goes on to state:

:"The arrangements that have been made are as follows:

:# The squad, which will consist of 20 players, will be accompanied by Mr Eric Haynes and the writer, who will be Manage and Coach respectively.

:# As last year, travel both ways will be by train, leaving Adelaide on Friday, 10th May; arriving Sydney on Saturday, 11th May.

:# In Sydney the players will again be billeted by the Rockdale Club and it is intended that we stay for 3 days and travel to Newcastle on the afternoon of Tuesday, 14th May. 2 games will be arranged in Sydney - one against Rockdale and the other against one of their neighbouring clubs.

:# In Newcastle the boys will be billeted by their opposite numbers of the Waratahs and we expect to play 2 games there.

:# We leave Newcastle in the afternoon of Friday, 17th May, returning via Melbourne; arriving in Adelaide Sunday, 19th May.

:# The approximate cost of the tour amounts to $35.00 plus pocket money. This total is made up as follows:

class="wikitable"
Train fare (Adelaide/Newcastle, return)$18.00
Club Jacket (which we will buy in bulk)$12.00
2 white skivvies (which we will buy in bulk)$ 5.00
Total$35.00

:So, the cost to a player who has his club jacket and skivvies will be $18.00 plus pocket money.

:Meal and Pocket Money - We suggest that no player should have more than $15.00 pocket money, which should be handed to the Manager before leaving Adelaide. Meals on the train are expensive and could cost between $4.00 and $5.00, which will leave each player $10.00 for pocket money."

The Burnside Norwood News Review, now the Eastern Courier Messenger, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Courier_Messenger reported on the tour stating:Burnside Norwood News Review, now the Eastern Courier Messenger, circa May/June 1974 reported under the title "Sydney Trip 'great experience'" "Waratahs under-16 team returned from its trip to Newcastle and Sydney with one win out of three against for more experienced sides.
