The Taunus Wonderland was opened on May 12, 1966 by Gunhilde Maxeiner and her husband as Fairy Tale Forest and Petting Zoo. In addition to a total of 400 animals, 120 European livestock and exotic animals such as chimpanzees, kangaroos, emus, llamas and parrots shown. The park was aimed at the target group of younger children and their families. From 1998, Otto Barth Senior acquired the Taunus Wonderland and it was expanded into an amusement park with rides. The Heissner company's animated fairy tale representations of ceramic and ton of the old park were gradually removed, as was the collection of plastic dinosaur replica . Some of these still exist and have been expanded with new replicas. Exotic animals were handed over to specialists, and only the stock of exotic birds was significantly expanded. In 2009, a grill hut with outdoor and indoor seating and 4 separate grill stations was built. In 2015, a new underpass will be built under the federal highway 275 and the entrance area will be modernized. From 2016, the Taunus Wunderland concept was completely revised and thematic areas and visually revised mascots were introduced.{{cite web|url=https://taunuswunderland.de/de/der-park.html#ueber-uns |titel=Der Park {{!}} Taunus Wonderland {{!}} The family park in nature! |abruf=2021-04-20}}{{cite web|url=https://sensor-wiesbaden.de/leben-im-vergnuegungspark-otto-barth-junior-wohnt-im-taunus -wunderland/ |titel=Life in the amusement park: Otto Barth junior lives in the "Taunus Wunderland" |datum=2017-06-18 |abruf=2021-04-20 |sprache=de-DE}}
