My name is Xander Veldhuijzen. I am an archaeologist / archaeometallurgist, and am specialised in some of the earliest known evidence of iron smelting (smelting ore to a bloom), primary smithing (consolidation of bloom), and secondary smithing (forging of billet or bar to artefacts) in the world, e.g. Tell Hammeh, Jordan ([http://www.ironsmelting.net/www/smelting/ see also my website]) (930 Cal BC smelting and some primary smithing) and [http://www.ironsmelting.net/www/smelting/ Tel Beth-Shemesh, Israel] (900 Cal BC secondary smithing).
I am a Research Fellow at the Institute of Archaeology, UCL.
I also work as an archaeological consultant for several projects, both metallurgical and non-metallurgical, e.g. the Qasr al-Hosn project in Abu Dhabi.
