Definitions

A PIA-article is an article satisfying at least one of the following conditions:

The talk page has an ARBPIA template.
The article belongs to both "Wikiproject Palestine" and "Wikiproject Israel".
The article belongs to both "Wikiproject Lebanon" and "Wikiproject Israel".
The article belongs to both "Wikiproject Syria" and "Wikiproject Israel".
The article belongs to "WikiProject Israel Palestine Collaboration articles".

Note that some low-traffic articles which are in ARBPIA don't have any of these defining characteristics, so this is a subset. As of November 24, 2024, these rules find 5650 articles.

Some edits carry tags giving these classifications:

A revert is an edit which carries an mw-undo, mw-manual-revert or mw-rollback tag.
A reverted edit is an edit which carries the mw-reverted tag.
A reverted revert is an edit marked as both a revert and as reverted.

An EC-editor is an editor with the "extended-confirmed" right. Since the database does not record whether an editor was EC at the time an edit was made, we use the following heuristic which should be an accurate approximation:

An editor with no username is not EC.
An editor registered less than 30 days before the edit was not EC.
An editor with fewer than 500 edits now, was not EC.
If the log records the grant of EC later than the edit, the editor was not EC when the edit was made.
All other edits are assumed to have been made when the editor was EC.

Time periods. The number of editors and the rate of editing jumped enormously when Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023. Therefore, trends are most clearly indicated by using October 7 as a year boundary.

General Statistics

Edits are classified according to whether the editor was EC at the time of the edit.

A consecutive edit sequence is a sequence of edits by the same editor to the same page without intervening edits by another editor. Counting of reverts is difficult to define properly in this case as one sequence can be a mixture of reverts, reverted edits, and neither.
