Talk to me, Andy Mabbett
- If you post a message on this page, I'll reply on this page to avoid fragmenting the discussion.
- If I've left you a message on your talk page, I will be watching it, so please reply there rather than here (but do feel free to drop a copy of {{tl|Talkback}} here).
- If appropriate, I will move discussion from here to the relevant article's talk page, so that anyone interested can join in.
- If you want to start a new discussion thread, please start it at the bottom of the page. Better still, use the "new section" tab next to the "edit this page" tab, or the link at the foot of this section, either of which will do that automatically.
- Please do not make links from within section headings.
- Inaccessible HTML (coloured text, "small" tags, etc.) will be removed from this page on sight. Broken heading or list structures will be fixed.
- Please sign and date your entries by inserting four tildes (
~~~~ ) at the end. - [{{SERVER}}{{localurl:{{NAMESPACE}}:{{PAGENAME}}|action=edit§ion=new}} Start a new discussion.]
Marian Antiphon follow-up
Hi Pigsonthewing, I'm the student from the (now archived) tearoom thread about the Marian Antiphons section on the Hymns to Mary page. I don't think I can post there anymore but would appreciate your advice. I read the dispute resolution guidelines and did attempt to reach out to the user UrielAcosta on the 7th with essentially the same thing I posted in the tearoom, but I think the thread may have been deleted. Since the user hasn't responded, is it okay to reattempt my edit with improved sourcing? I now know that I should have used the sandbox rather than just posting a draft and planning to refine/improve it later. Also, I hope I didn't come across in the thread as though I think Wikipedia's quality standards not matter because I'm a student. I was only trying to explain why I was attempting a substantial edit with a clearly new account. Kelseyjay (talk) 21:46, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
:Your teahouse query was archived, to: Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions/Archive 1259#Advice for first time editor. You can start a new query at The Teahouse if you still have questions (here is fine also, but you will get answers more promptly there).
:Your question to UrielAcosta is still visible, at User talk:UrielAcosta#Question regarding Marian antiphons section, but as yet unanswered, which is poor, and something they should attend to promptly.
:It seems that, after posting here, you went ahead anyway. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 11:29, 11 July 2025 (UTC)
Development
- Wikibase REST API: We started work on the simple Property prefix search phab:(T397838)
- Mobile statement editing: We continued the work on the basics with viewing of statements (phab:T394886])
- Search: Fixed a bug when pasting into the search box (phab:T397608)
- Integration in Wikipedia and co:
- We began research into current limits for collapsing entity usage. (Basically when an article uses more data from an Item than the configured limit then we consider all data on that Item to be used. This is done for infrastructure reasons.) We’d like to improve this to further reduce unnecessary Wikidata changes showing up on watchlist and recent changes on Wikipedia and co.
- We will roll out showing labels instead of IDs in Wikidata edits in watchlist and recent changes to more wikis later this week.
You can see all open tickets related to Wikidata here. If you want to help, you can also have a look at [https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/project/board/71/query/zfiRgTnZF7zu/?filter=zfiRgTnZF7zu&order=priority the tasks needing a volunteer].
Updates for editors
- Featured templates, a new feature related to Template Recall and Discovery will be deployed this week to all Wikimedia projects: With this feature, editors will be able to quickly access a list of templates that are likely to be useful. These templates will be displayed in a list, under the "featured" tab of the template discovery interface. Administrators can define the list via the Community Configuration interface. The feature fulfills a request by the community through the Community Wishlist. [https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T367428][https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T392896]
