A "years&dates on bios" editor is baaaaaack
I've seen this behavior before and noticed you reverted one of their past edits on September 7, 2024 [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gardiner,_Maine&diff=next&oldid=1244580091 here], where they had also added people's birth years & death years to multiple names (seems to be only disambiguation pages?). And not that there's anything wrong with this next bit but is it possible they're using some sort of automated editing? Looking at their [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/72.80.249.241 editing history] they are accomplishing multiple edits within a 'very short timeframe.
Anyway, my question is...this pattern seems to be some some sort of tendentious editing and a possible LTA but I am not sure if there is a policy or guideline for reverting these years from allll these disambiguation pages, and there are so very many edits, so...help!? Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 02:09, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
:@Shearonink I don't think this is especially disruptive. I spot checked a few of their edits and they appear to be accurate. As for using an automated editing program, I'm probably not the right person to be addressing that issue. I'd suggest you start by discussing this with the user and/or seeking assistance at WP:VPT. My command of tech likely peaked with the electric typewriter. That said, the relevant guidelines are to be found at WP:BOT and in particular WP:ASSISTED. Sorry I can't be of more help. -Ad Orientem (talk) 02:50, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
::Naww, I'm going to leave it all alone. I realized I've gotten this innocent IP-editor confused with an editor I've come across more than once who has extraneously added people's ages at the time of events (examples:[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Martha_Jefferson&diff=prev&oldid=1172568260 here] and [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Millard_Fillmore&diff=prev&oldid=1177983032 here]) to various biographical articles. So, in other words, sorry about that & nevermind. - Shearonink (talk) 03:23, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
:::@Shearonink No problem. You are almost never wrong to ask questions if you see something that doesn't seem quite right. It's a good day when it ends up being a nothing burger. Carry on. -Ad Orientem (talk) 04:08, 28 April 2025 (UTC)
CSD of American Communist Party
Hi Ad Orientem. I saw that you nominated American Communist Party (2024) for speedy deletion. When it was deleted, it looked a bit like [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Undelete&target=American+Communist+Party+%282024%29×tamp=20240723174919&diff=prev this] (admin-only diff), relying on primary sources and the participants in the AfD stating that there was a lack of independent sources with SIGCOV. However, the more recent article had different sourcing such as a piece from the Jewish Journal [https://jewishjournal.com/commentary/opinion/379573/the-three-stooges-go-to-lebanon/] (considered generally reliable according to this thread, even if it is an opinion piece that may have neutrality issues) and another from the Independent Political Report apparently by Jordan Willow Evans [https://independentpoliticalreport.com/2024/07/american-communist-party-launches-as-reconstitution-of-communist-party-usa-several-clubs-deny-inclusion-in-party-declaration/], who did work for places like the Kansas City Star, Houston Chronicle, ABC News etc. Either way, the sourcing situation seems to be at least different from when you closed the AfD, and I don't think a G4 nomination was appropriate here since the notability seems more dubious. Feel free to tell me if you disagree with my rationale, but I think another AfD nom would be the best next step instead of nominating it for G4. Fathoms Below (talk) 04:09, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
:It's been redirected, again. That's fine. I seriously doubt that the overall notability issues have been resolved. My suggestion would be to fully protect the redirect so we don't have to keep going through this. If consensus eventually evolves to support notability we can lift the protection. -Ad Orientem (talk) 19:51, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
IP continuing WP:PA violations after block expired
An IP you blocked last November, and later extended the block twice due to block evasion, has finally had their block expire.
And they've immediately resumed their WP:PA violations and hounding. Redacted II (talk) 12:47, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
:At this point, I think an Indef is the right move.
:Here's the relevant ANI thread for the original block. Redacted II (talk) 12:55, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
::@Redacted II Not quite enough for another block, but I endorsed your warning and left a strongly worded note on their talk page. -Ad Orientem (talk) 15:09, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
:::P.S. We can't indef IPs. But we can impose multi-year blocks in extreme situations. -Ad Orientem (talk) 15:11, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
::::Good to know. Redacted II (talk) 15:11, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
:::::And thanks for taking the time to warn them on their talk page. Redacted II (talk) 15:13, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
::::::Gary Houston is an author. She is a public figure. He is her ex husband and she has four kids. These are facts. Public figure personal lives are public record. It makes no sense to block me on this issue. What facts do you want? Marital records. Townsb (talk) 09:44, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
:::::::I wasn't referring to you (you have an account, so your not an IP) Redacted II (talk) 13:13, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
::::::::@Townsb Currently, you ate only blocked from editing the page Sandra Masters. When making claims of fact in an article you must ensure that they are properly cited to an independent reliable source. Please see WP:CITE and WP:RS. Thank you. -Ad Orientem (talk) 14:49, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
:::::::::What data would you like? A marriage license? If so I will include. Townsb (talk) 22:48, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
::::::::::@Townsb The relevant guideline for sources can be found at WP:RS. Generally speaking we prefer secondary sources. I particularly refer you to WP:RSPRIMARY and WP:BLPRS. If you are in doubt, you can post a question on the article talk page or request outside input at the WP:HELPDESK. Best regards... -Ad Orientem (talk) 23:32, 9 May 2025 (UTC)
Question about merging
I am trying to finish up an incomplete merge started by another editor, merging 2012 Tropical Storm Debby tornado outbreak into Tropical Storm Debby (2012). Could you please maybe check & see if I've forgotten anything or mangled something? Cause I am sure I probably have... (The main thing was the previous editor didn't place a template about the merge onto the target article's talk page, so I think I fixed that up.) Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 05:37, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
:I'm not an expert on weather related subjects, but as near as I can tell you seem to have gotten the essential stuff. -Ad Orientem (talk) 19:54, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
::Oh good! I wasn't quite sure how to proceed since it was a truncated merge with bits & pieces kind of left behind... Mostly getting the detailed & sourced table of the List of tornadoes into the merged-to article + the attribution on the target talk page. I think most of the other info was already in the target article. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 22:21, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
Your block of Uche77zero
Hello! Yesterday, I reported {{userlinks|Uche77zero}} to AIV, and you blocked them. I made a mistake of not including some background information. I want to ask you if could consider upgrading their block to an indef.
It is very interesting that before Uche77zero [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2Rivers&diff=prev&oldid=1288527942 vandalized] 2Rivers, two different editors had vandalized the page in a similar way (e.g. [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2Rivers&diff=prev&oldid=1288501592][https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2Rivers&diff=prev&oldid=1288506609]). Like Uche77zero, the other registered vandal, {{userlinks|Chubyojo}}, doesn't have a new account. I suspect that there was some improper off-wiki coordination going on.
Actually, Uche77zero is a very old account – they registered in 2005. Their first edit (2015) seems to be good-faith, but the only purpose of their subsequent edits seems to be promoting a person named Uche Nwachukwu, who, I assume, is behind the account.
That is, I do not think we could assume good faith of Uche77zero. Feel free do decline this suggestion; I just thought that I should have mentioned this background information in the AIV report.

:@Janhrach I've left a formal warning on their talk page. If this resumes, I will indef them. -Ad Orientem (talk) 15:20, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

- Following an RfC, administrator elections were permanently authorized on a five-month schedule. The next election will be scheduled soon; see Wikipedia talk:Administrator elections for more information. This is an alternate process to the RfA process and does not replace the latter.
- An RfC was closed with consensus to allow editors to opt-out of seeing "sticky decorative elements". Such elements should now be wrapped in {{t|sticky decoration wrapper}}. Editors who wish to opt out can follow the instructions at WP:STICKYDECO.
- An RfC has resulted in a broad prohibition on the use of AI-generated images in articles. A few common-sense exceptions are recognized.

Re: Recent ANI closure
Hello, I recently opened an ANI discussion that was closed on the grounds that I should not be taking my disagreement on the categorization of Hindutva politicians to ANI. However, that is not what I was talking about. I was talking about a specific comment within that discussion made by a different user that seemed to indicate support for discrimination and violence against Muslims. The disagreement between me, Kautilya3, and TryKid was not the subject of the report. Is there any way to undo the closure? Arctic Circle System (talk) 00:23, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
:@Arctic Circle System I read the discussion and am well aware that you were concerned about a specific comment. But as I noted, ANI is not the first stop when you have a disagreement with another editor. Exceptions do exist. If their behavior is nakedly disruptive. But in general you are expected to discuss someone's behavior with them before asking for admin intervention. Even in cases of clearly disruptive behavior, we rarely block someone without a warning. See WP:DR, and WP:ZT. I will drop a note on their talk page regarding WP:FORUM and WP:POLEMIC. But more than that is not justified at this point. The report was in fact premature. -Ad Orientem (talk) 01:38, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
::I am... Hesitant to consider opining the lack of more discrimination and violence against Muslims to just be a "disagreement", but I will not pursue ANI any further. Arctic Circle System (talk) 04:29, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
:::@Arctic Circle System Please see the note I left on their talk page. -Ad Orientem (talk) 14:23, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
::::Thank you, though they are... Still going even after that note has been posted. They're now referring to Hindus as "non-zombified Indians" because... I guess any non-Hindu minorities in India are zombies now? Arctic Circle System (talk) 22:28, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
:::::@Arctic Circle System Ok, that was just trollish behavior. IP blocked x 1 week and I've revdeled their last two comments. If there is anymore of that nonsense, drop me a line or ping me. -Ad Orientem (talk) 23:12, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
