Fair use rationale for File:Titans VFH.jpg

File:Copyright-problem.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to :File:Titans VFH.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 16:46, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Stalking (but in a good way)

I think I'm just going to start following you around. It's a great way to catch up on some characters I haven't read about since I stopped collecting. 69.181.249.92 (talk) 23:04, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

:::File copyright problem with File:Dr. Light's New God.jpg

:::File:Copyright-problem.svg

:::Thank you for uploading :File:Dr. Light's New God.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

:::If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in [{{fullurl:Special:Log|type=upload&user=CBcleaner}} your upload log].

:::If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation.

:::File source problem with File:Dr. Light's New God.jpg

:::File:Copyright-problem.svg

:::Thank you for uploading :File:Dr. Light's New God.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. The above is just from one of the images you've uploaded over the last week. With the notices placed by Eeekster and ww2censor this means that all' of them:

{{col-begin}}

{{col-3}}

{{col-3}}

{{col-3}}

{{col-end}}

lack both an appropriate copyright license tag and proper, clear fair use rationale. And with the exception of JL crisis Henchmen by Phillybee-1-.jpg, they all also lack anything close to proper sourcing. And the "Insiders" bypass this only because you left a link to actual page the image is at, though it is questionable if that site is put together by the character designer that worked with/for WB or a fan.

There are a few other issues with the images:

  • Size - General practice is to not use images that are greater than 300px across. There is some latitude in this for cases where the greater detail is needed to illustrate the point in the article text.
  • Full comics pages - While they can be an exception with regard to size, they still tend to cap out at ~450px. And they will be pulled if they pad out, or are used in lieu of, a plot summary. Spot images are supposed to be used to help illustrate something that cannot be conveyed in the article text. Panel-by-panel summaries and text can be properly summarized in the articles. And a summary is going to mean the basics, the articles should not be a complete rehash/regurgitation of the comics.
  • The Comics Project does have a guideline for the image used in comic character infoboxes. One of the primary things there is that the image aimed for is the most design most widely associated with the character. Changing an image just because it's "the new costume" puts undue weight on the new look.

- J Greb (talk) 06:54, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

:And the image you just uploaded - :File:Black RH.jpg and :File:Firestorm B&B.jpg - have the same fundamental problems and have been tagged. Please, if you are going to upload images, provide the complete information needed for Wikipedia to use them. If you cannot, or will not, do this, please stop uploading images.

::Reviewing the changes you made to:

::*:File:Nicola-scott-1-.jpg

::*:File:1264055-forbidden love-1-.jpg

::*:File:Titans VFH.jpg

::*:File:Zee GL.jpg

::*:File:Zee and Flush.jpg

::A few issues still persist, and a few new ones crop up.

::*Do not remove maintenance/file deletion templates unless you actually address the deficiencies of the file page. While Nicola-scott-1-.jpg is now sourced, you did not bother to provide the licensing information nor a reason for the images use on Wikipedia. Such tag removal is considered non-constructive.

::*Something that should have been mentioned before in relation to the same image, using a non-free image is generally not acceptable with an article on a living person.

::*A fair use rationale (FUR) needs to be provided for each use of the image on Wikipedia. Since Titans VFH.jpg is used on multiple pages but only has a FUR for one of them, removing the tag related to the FUR is inappropriate.

::*Use in articles. As mentioned above, Wikipedia does have a policy limiting the non-free content in articles. Points 1, 3, and 8 have to be taken into account when placing images. Yes, there is some flexibility in this, but just some. Looking at the purpose of use you provided for Titans VFH.jpg, Zee GL.jpg, and Zee and Flush.jpg, the use fails point 1 and 8 - the information can be provided solely by the text of the article. The presence or lack of an image does not impact a readers ability to get the point. These images can, and likely will get removed from the articles based on this.
1264055-forbidden love-1-.jpg isn't much better since your reason is a little on the vague side. If it relates to the relationship between Cheshire and Harper, that can be conveyed with in the article text. If it is to highlight Harper's "new look", there are better images that can be used. And even those are questionable since the text "Harper's amputated right arm has been replaced with a gold toned, cybernetic prosthesis."

::- J Greb (talk) 15:01, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

:::Addendum re :File:Firestorm B&B.jpg... It is still unsourced and "Illustrate article" is not a valid rationale. "Illustrate article" essentially says that the image is being used for decorative purposes only. Both relevant tags have been readded. - J Greb (talk) 15:34, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Justice League and 99.jpg

Thanks for uploading :File:Justice League and 99.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

Images issues

For all the files you upload, please specify if you either scaned the flat art or catured the scene from a video, or the website where you found the file. As it stands you have uploaded image from the upcomming television show Young Justice that cannot be captures from the show since none of the episode have aired yet. You need to provide the source for these or theye will be deleted out of hand as possible from pirated sources. Similare issues exist for caps from DC Online, a game that has yet to be released.

Thank you

- J Greb (talk) 02:30, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

:Additional points, almost all of them to do with the poor fair use rationales (FURs) you provide:

:*Learn to undestand th differance between a "Full screen shot" and "Promotional art". :File:X23 Marvel Vs..jpg is in no way a creen shoot.

:*Blog posts are rarely a good initial source.

:*Not providing a link to where you find an image is leaving it unsourced.

:*Images in excess of ~350px across don't fall under "low resolution".

:*Lieing about the reslution in the FUR is not acceptable. you apparently have some idea what the image size needs to be, edit the image down to that sixe before uploading.

:*Pulling an image from another wiki is not acceptable unless that wiki provides sourcing for the image. The DC wiki rarely has source information.

:*Part of the sourcing of the image is clearly identifying where it was originally published, either in print or as part of a television show or film.

:*Leaving it to other editors to clean up after you is at a minimum disrespectfull. But looking at 95 files since early August, it comes closer to disruptive.

:If you cannot or will not properly uploade images - at an acceptable size and properly documented - stop uploading.

Orphaned non-free image File:BOPBD.jpg

Image:Ambox warning blue.svg Thanks for uploading :File:BOPBD.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. J Greb (talk) 18:58, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

File source problem with File:MercyBMSM.jpg

File:Copyright-problem.svg

Thank you for uploading :File:MercyBMSM.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created [{{fullurl:Special:Log|type=upload&user=CBcleaner}} in your upload log]. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. License tagging for File:KillerFrostYJ.jpg

Thanks for uploading :File:KillerFrostYJ.jpg.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 20:06, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Comics, OR, and publishers boards

With what you have been adding for DC's "New 52" a few problems have been creeping in:

  1. Unless a character is specifically named, and hopefully in something other than a solicitation text, do not apply your knowledge as a fan and guess the character in question's ID. That is original research and will be stripped out.
  2. Plot elements really should wait for the issues to go on sale.
  3. We are not part of DC's marketing department. Please refrain from parroting their sales material to closely.
  4. The bit about the Huntress mini being a tie-in to BoP falls under WP:CRYSTAL at this point as well as parroting DC's sales pitch.

Thanks

[[Wikipedia:Proposed deletion|Proposed deletion]] of [[Element Woman]]

Image:Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Element Woman has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

:A search for reliable, secondary sources reveals an insufficient amount of significant coverage. This article fails Wikipedia's notability guidelines for fictional characters.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. File:RRDCNu.jpg

I have tagged :File:RRDCNu.jpg as a disputed use of non-free media, because there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Fair use rationale for File:Robin_alternates.jpg

Image:Ambox warning pn.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to :File:Robin_alternates.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Melesse (talk) 00:43, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Opting in to VisualEditor

As you may know, VisualEditor ("Edit beta") is currently available on the English Wikipedia only for registered editors who choose to enable it. Since you have made 50 or more edits with VisualEditor this year, I want to make sure that you know that you can enable VisualEditor (if you haven't already done so) by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "{{MediaWiki:visualeditor-preference-enable}}". This will give you the option of using VisualEditor on articles and userpages when you want to, and give you the opportunity to spot changes in the interface and suggest improvements. We value your feedback, whether positive or negative, about using VisualEditor, at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 20:16, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Green ArrowArtemis.jpg

File:Copyright-problem.svg

Thank you for uploading :File:Green ArrowArtemis.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:01, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
