Hi Cattivi, thanks again for your help on the Len Puddefoot article. Is it possible to ask a favour? I'm in the process of creating a basic article for William Brown, who played for Partick Thistle, Vale of Leven and West Ham United in the 1900s. I wondered if he had an entry in the book you mentioned before (Scottish League players' division one 1890/91 to 1938/39 by Steve Emms and Richard Wells)? The Partick Thistle History Archive has him born in 1885 and playing for them between 1905-1906, but I can't use that as a reference as it's an external Wiki.[http://partickthistleahistory.wikifoundry.com/page/Players+B][http://partickthistleahistory.wikifoundry.com/page/BROWN%2C+William+1905-06] I have the details of him joining Thistle referenced from elsewhere, but I'm unable to find refs for the date he left, or his dob. Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks, Nzd (talk) 19:20, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
:There is not much additional information in the book:page 27, Born in Newmilns 1885, only 1 league game for Partick Thistle in 1905-06. Ayr Parkhouse 1905-06 (probably a loan but that's not in the book). 1906-07 Vale of Leven 16 goals, 1907-08 West Ham 17-4 (SL) 1908-09 West Ham 2-0 (SL) I have a copy of Partick Thistle Football Club 1876-2002 The official history (Reid, Kennedy, Thomson, Anderson, Deans) on page 130 there is William Brown 1905-06 4-1. The first one was a friendly against St Mirren on Aug 15th 1905 (p 141) On page 163 Brown is listed twice: A league game against Motherwell (H) Oct 28th + a Glasgow League game against Clyde May 12th both Inside Left. And another league game Third Lanark (H) Jan 6th, inside right. I can't find the goal he scored in this book. So there could well be two league games in 1905-06. There is no second Brown 1905-06 Partick listed in the Emms/Wells book Cattivi (talk) 21:08, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
::That's awesome, thanks! Was there an appearance figure for Vale of Leven, or does it just say 16 goals? I think it's probably better to stick with the 1 League app unless anything else proves it. When you get a mo, would you mind taking a look, just to make sure I've understood you correctly? Thanks again, Nzd (talk) 23:04, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
:::If you're looking for appearances for Vale of Leven: [http://www.pmfc.co.uk/prewar.html] probably has more details, including exact dates of signing, but often no date of birth. The Third Lanark game was a league game. It's either 2 league games or 2 players with the same name each playing 1 league game. Cattivi (talk) 23:19, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
::::The Motherwell game was in October 1905 not 1906. I've got an other source Libero IFFHS-Magazine no. 34 III. Quarter 2001 page 31 William Brown 2 league games 0 goals (stats collected by Alan Brown) Cattivi (talk) 23:44, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
:::::You're amazing :) I think that probably settles it. Is there an article title I can put in the cite tag? Nzd (talk) 00:03, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
::::::Don't worry, I've just put his name in. It's up now - William Brown (footballer, born 1885). Thanks for the tip about the cd-rom. I might have to go for that. Cheers, Nzd (talk) 01:12, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
