Speedy deletion nomination of :PSR J1856+0245
A tag has been placed on :PSR J1856+0245 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://venus.fandm.edu/~fcrawfor/ps/hng+08.pdf. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Primefac (talk) 16:46, 25 May 2017 (UTC)
Controbutions
I feel like I may be too young to write articles and that my articles that I write will end up being deleted. I want to share my knowledge of science with everyone but I don't think I write very good articles. Is there anything I should do? CooperScience (talk) 04:40, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
In addition, I have little experience with creating add one such as info boxes to improve my articles.
:Creating new articles is much more difficult than many of the routine tasks of improving Wikipedia. It's also less likely to be productive if you're inexperienced, as the article may end up getting deleted. I suggest that you stick to improving existing articles until you have more experience (age is irrelevant). Look at the edit history of any good existing article: you'll see that only a tiny fraction of the work was done by the creator of the article. Maproom (talk) 07:18, 26 May 2017 (UTC)
XTE J1118+480
While attempting to fix my page's issues, the starbox was removed and everything was stuffed into a box. Now my article looks like random, garbled junk! What can I do to fix it, or can anyone fix it? CooperScience (talk) 20:03, 27 May 2017 (UTC)
Image without license
Unspecified source/license for :File:Wilma 2005 0712z.jpg
Thanks for uploading :File:Wilma 2005 0712z.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like PD-self (to release all rights), self (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. Image dispute
I have observed the edit war between you and the other user and I honestly don't know which image is better at this time, but I do know that since you are attempting to change the image it is up to you to make a case for doing so on the article talk page. That is standard Wikipedia procedure. Edit warring is not acceptable even if you are correct. I'm going to warn the other user as well. I encourage you both to discuss the issue and reach an agreement. 331dot (talk) 21:34, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

Sources
When you are changing damage totals can you make sure you source it in the actual article and not just leave edit summaries like "Per most recent NOAA estimate" or "Damage fixes for Tomas and Matthew." Thanks.Jason Rees (talk) 20:16, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
Ok. I will make sure that I remember to do that. Thank you for letting me know
CooperScience (talk) 20:25, 12 March 2018 (UTC)CooperScience
:It is also not good enough to "note that these values are what is listed on the pages" as we can not verify the damages on the List of Retired Atlantic hurricane names. Also how do I know that the damage totals in the articles are correct or sourced? On a side note, I do not like playing hard-ball over this but the list of Retired Atlantic hurricane names was built up by me, using the damage totals I could reliably source. There are some differences in damage totals, but as time allows we need to go through it and check them and source it up carefully.Jason Rees (talk) 22:52, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
Oh. I thought that we should go by the estimates on the pages, sorry again.

- Hurricane Karl(1998)

Retired names
Please note that the retirement sections do not provide a running commentary on what names have been retired. This includes noting that Irene was replaced by Irma which is going to be retired itself after it was used in 2017.Jason Rees (talk) 18:09, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
:If thats true, then why is the same content in the 2002, 2003, and 2004 seasons? There is no rule that does not allow stating that the name that replaced the retired name was itself retired. Cooper 19:01, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
::Im fairly sure its true and even then its pretty trivial in my opinion, since the name that a name gets replaced with is retired on a regular basis especially in the South Pacific.Jason Rees (talk) 19:31, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
:::The South Pacific has different and less rigorous retirement standards, and there are smaller lists of names. You can't compare the Atlantic to the South Pacific. It is no "running commentary", it is simply giving additional useful information. Cooper 19:48, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
::::I firmly disagree that it is usefull information and feel it is trivial especially since you can compare the Atlantic to South Pacific.Jason Rees (talk) 19:59, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
:::::Regardless, it is useful information, and you should not be telling people what they can or cannot put in articles. Cooper 20:02, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
::::::As I keep saying it isnt useful information and is trivial. Also im telling you what the project consensus has been for years - if you wish to challenge it then take it to the project page.Jason Rees (talk) 20:04, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
:::::::You saying its trivial is simply an opinion, not fact. Why should this information be allowed on the other seasons yet not on this one? You shouldn't be so judgmental on this.
::::::::I dont think it should be in any of the articles as it is trivial and im seriously tempted to remove it but that would breach WP:Point.Jason Rees (talk) 20:08, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Satellite image edit warring
File:Ambox warning pn.svg This is a warning going out to all editors involved in the multitude of edit warring across WikiProject Tropical cyclones. This is a preemptive warning to cease the edit warring before another incident arises and the consequences of ignoring this warning will be enforced immediately. The endless reverting and replacing of images with or without valid rationale has reached the point of being disruptive. These edits are generally a waste of time and focus should be placed on the content of the article rather than a single image. Continued edit warring will result in temporary bans—for 36 hours or longer—at the discretion of administrators. At the time of this warning, the project discussion on these images is still open and arguments within do not constitute project policy. ~ Cyclonebiskit (chat) 03:21, 28 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Gimp Tips?
Hey CooperScience! So recently I have discovered this layer mask feature in GIMP and have started experimenting with the feature. Do you have any suggestions or tips on making better colored GOES images? I'm sorry to bother you, I was just asking. Thanks!

Image for TD 10
Hi CooperScience! I noticed that you keep changing the image for Tropical Depression 10 to an image of Invest 93L. The image is supposed to be for TD 10 at peak intensity, not Tropical Depression 10 before genesis/as an invest. Though your image is of the best quality, it is still the wrong image to put into an infobox for a system named "Tropical Depression Ten," because the system is not named "Invest 93L". Please discuss on the 2020 Atl season talk page. Thanks. ~ Destroyeraa🌀 20:04, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

Sally peak pic
Hey Coop! Do you have an image of Sally from when it was a Cat 2? The image you have was when it was a Cat 1.ChessEric (talk) 19:29, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hey Eric! At this time, the 0400Z/16 image is all I've got of Sally, but I'll probably have more to upload shortly. Sally's peak intensity aggravatingly occurred between the Terra and Aqua passes. GOES-16 probably does have this available; if there's a particular pass time you'd like, let me know. Cooper 19:37, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

How to color satellite images
Hi Cooper. Can I ask how do you color GOES images? I was planning on uploading colored TC images of 1998 WPAC. Regards, 👦 08:15, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hello Nino Marakot! Nice of you to ask. There's a few different methods that I've used for creating colored images, and I know others use more methods still. I use different methods for different types of imagery, although the one I most frequently use is through Photoshop. If you give me some time, I can probably write up a tutorial for creating colored images. If there's a specific editing software that you prefer to use, let me know, and I can adjust accordingly. Hi Cooperscience, I have a quick question can you give me advice on how to make satellite images of tropical cyclones less pixelated do I have to get GIMP or Photoshop or something? Because all my uploads from NOAA are pixelated when I zoom in onto it, I know you've been doing this for a while. Wikihelp7586 (Talk) 19:13, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

WikiProject Weather: Map Dot & Template/Infobox Colors
Dear project member,
This message is being sent out to encourage new ideas and feedback on those proposed in regard to the colors debate for WikiProject Weather. For those who are unaware of what's been happening over the last year, I will give a brief summary. We have been discussing proposed changes to the colors of the dots on tropical cyclone maps and templates and infoboxes across the entire weather project in order to solve issues related to the limited contrast between colors for both normal vision as well as the various types of color blindness (MOS:ACCESS). We had partially implemented a proposal earlier this year, however, it was objected to by a number of people and additional issues were presented that made it evident this wasn't the optimal solution. We tried to come up with other solutions to address the issues related to color contrast, however, none of them gained traction and no consensus was generated.
We need your help and I encourage you to propose your own scale and give feedback on those already listed. Keep in mind that we are NOT making a decision on any individual proposal at this time. We are simply allowing people to make proposals and cultivate them given feedback from other project members. Please visit our project page for additional details. The proposal phase will close no later than December 31st at 23:59 UTC. NoahTalk 03:21, 21 November 2022 (UTC)

Image sourcing help
Hi there, CooperScience! I'd like to thank you for the work you've done in uploading satellite imagery of tropical cyclones, such as those in the 1995 Pacific hurricane season. I recently used some of them when creating a timeline for that season, which is currently a featured list candidate. Unfortunately, the source links don't seem to work, which is an issue that has been highlighted by one of the reviewers. Is there an easier way to access the sources? Dylan620 (he/him • talk • edits) 21:04, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
:NOAA CLASS recently changed their website url; a lot of those images are from 2018/2019 before they changed it. This link should work better: https://www.aev.class.noaa.gov Cooper 14:37, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
::I appreciate the updated link. I've tried using the database to locate some GOES-8 and AVHRR imagery of Adolph around the same time as :File:Adolph 1995-06-17 2015Z.png, and the images I'm getting provide a rather tilted view of the area, although the storm is identifiable in those images. Do you happen to remember what settings you used to obtain the overhead imagery? Dylan620 (he/him • talk • edits) 00:29, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
:::I usually try to download full-disk GOES-8 imagery; it provides the largest satellite view available. When you order images through NOAA CLASS using GOES-8 and later (GVAR_IMG)), look for data that has the "FD" tag under Coverage. Full-disk data is usually available over 3-hour intervals (00Z, 03Z, 06Z...) although with CLASS the data is often offset by about 15 minutes. For example the FD imagery for 18Z might actually have a start time of 17:45Z. Some of the earliest GOES-8 data does not have full-disk coverage available (its common for it to say "O" instead) so if that is the case I would just download several datasets around the times of the full-disk images and see if they work. Cooper 19:51, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
::::Much obliged! If you don't mind me asking – what program did you use to superimpose the data? Dylan620 (he/him • talk • edits) 00:19, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
:::::I used NOAA's Weather and Climate Toolkit, which is freely accessible as long as you have a program like WinRAR to extract files and run the program. The data exported are in GeoTIFF format and I use another program called IrfanView 64-bit to convert the GeoTIFF files into usable png or jpg Cooper 01:04, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
Sourcing GMS images
Hello there! I am wondering what site you use to source GMS data, like for your image of Betty 1987. You listed MCFETCH as the source, but I couldn't find GMS-3 in the SDS inventory or the SSEC archives. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!
