User talk:Craig~enwiki
{{unblock reviewed | 1=The reason given for my block was "vandalism" of a page I was trying to edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Cloud. However, I believe this was a misunderstanding by the admin, Fastily, who issued it. Fastily is retired so I cannot speak to him about this matter. If you review my history, you'll see that I created the Maurice Cloud page and subsequently made several edits that did not prompt any concerns. As I recall, the last edit made was to change the name of the page to the full name of the artist (from "Georges Cloud" to "Georges Maurice Cloud"). Perhaps it was this action that caused the admin to be alarmed. Or, I preformed some other action (I.e., an edit) incorrectly. If this were the case, I am quite sorry about that and I will be much more careful in the future. Finally, just so I'm clear, it was never my intention to vandalize a page or create vandalism on Wikipedia. Please except my explanation and remove this indefinite block on my account. Thank you so much. Craig (talk) 03:49, 9 June 2013 (UTC) | decline=Hmm, when I saw this was a four-year-old-block, my first thought was that it should be fine to unblock you now. But when I checked your history, I found what appears to be a significant mismatch between your claims and the truth. Firstly, unless you used a different account, you did not create the Maurice Cloud page. And your last change was not to change his full name - you were repeatedly blanking the entire page (twice with the rather cryptic comment "content no longer accurate or relevant"). I do think an indefinite block is perhaps excessive, as it was apparently a first offence and you had made some constructive contributions - but I would be reluctant to unblock based on such apparently false claims. I suggest you reacquaint yourself with what actually happened and then make a new unblock request -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 05:54, 9 June 2013 (UTC)}}
{{unblock reviewed | 1=No, on the contrary, I think your claims are false. Firstly, I did in fact create the Maurice Cloud page as there was no such page in existence at the time. Secondly, my last edit was (as I stated above) changing the name of the artist to his full name. The history page specifically states this: "03:37, 8 August 2009 . . Maurice Cloud ←Replaced content with 'Georges Maurice Cloud." And Thirdly, yes it's true that I made a regrettable mistake in deleting the page twice in a row while trying to make the name change. As I stated above, I will take much better care in avoiding such mistakes in the future. Again, my intention was never to cause vandalism to Wikipedia. I believe strongly that using that reason for blocking me indefinitely was unwarranted and simply wrong.Craig (talk) 04:26, 11 June 2013 (UTC) | decline=Technical decline - new unblock request below -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 07:12, 12 June 2013 (UTC)}}
- See first entry in article history - " 00:55, 29 October 2008 Oxylea (talk | contribs | block) . . (3,637 bytes) (+3,637) . . (Created biography of French artist, Maurice Cloud.)" - Now, was that you or was it Oxylea who created the article?
- Re: " Replaced content with 'Georges Maurice Cloud" - the key word is "replaced". You did not just change the name, you removed the entire content and left *only* the text "Georges Maurice Cloud"
Now, I'm happy to accept that you were trying to change the artist's name, but you need to recognize that you failed to do so - if you cannot see that, then it suggests that you perhaps do not possess the competence required to edit Wikipedia. Secondly, we need to clarify who created the article. It is plain to anyone looking at the history that it was *not* created by User:Craig - but as you insist that it was you who created it, we would need you to explain your relationship with the User:Oxylea account. If you can settle these two things, I will be happy to unblock you -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 04:49, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
{{unblock reviewed | 1=Let me address your two concerns. The first one has to do with my recognizing the fact that I failed to change the artist's name without accidentally deleting the entire page. In both my unblock statements above I do, in fact, express regret for this error, "I made a regrettable mistake in deleting the page..." and "I am quite sorry about that and I will be much more careful in the future." Using the key word "replaced" was clearly the wrong word choice for the simple edit I was trying to make. So I do recognize my mistake, but I don't think it's due to my incompetence as you suggested. I had made numerous edits prior to the one in question without problems. Not just for Marice Cloud but also for Aldous Huxley, a writer who I have written articles about and studied extensively while in graduate school at UC Berkeley and the University of Iowa.
Regarding your second and final concern about who created the Maurice Cloud page on Wikipedia. The user, Oxylea, is my friend and colleague,
I hope my explanations satisfies your concerns and that you will consider lifting the indefinite block on me. Thank you, Craig (talk) 02:13, 12 June 2013 (UTC). | accept=Thanks for the explanation - I have now unblocked your account. But just one comment - you should not reveal the actual real-world identity of other Wikipedia editors, or any personal information that they have not already disclosed themselves. Anyway, welcome back and happy editing. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 07:19, 12 June 2013 (UTC)}}
Your account will be renamed
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Craig. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Craig~enwiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name. If you think you might own all of the accounts with this name and this message is in error, please visit Special:MergeAccount to check and attach all of your accounts to prevent them from being renamed.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
