User talk:Edward Y. Chang

Welcome!

Hello, Edward Y. Chang, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was :Edward Y. Chang, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, visit the Teahouse, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Tlc|Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! {{#ifexpr: ({{CURRENTTIMESTAMP}} - 20250511111258) < 5000000000 | {{PAGENAME}} | }} plicit 11:12, 11 May 2025 (UTC)

:This page was not created by me. Occasionally I provided very minor edits to reflect significant milestones such as publishing a book. The username of mine is clearly not a corporation. Please check the history of its creation. If my recent additional of a book is considered not neutral, we can roll back that edit. "Deleting" the entire page seems to be too drastic an editorial action.

::Hi Edward Y. Chang. The template {{u|Explicit}}, who's a Wikipedia administrator, added above is mainly just to let you know about Wikipedia's various policies and guidelines related to conflict of interest editing; in other words, Explicit just added it for informational purposes, not because you did something wrong. However, you should read through the various pages linked to above because they do contain information that could help you avoid problems in the future. For reference, Wikipedia defines :WP:MINOR edits in a particular way, and minor edits are usually OK for COI editors to make; for everything else, though, it's best to use the article's talk page to make :WP:EDITREQUEST so that others can assess the proposed changes to see whether the relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines.{{pb}}Your choice of user name isn't a problem per se because users can use their real names as their user names if they want as explained in :WP:REALNAME; there can be some drawbacks to doing so, though, since all edits you make with this account are publicly visible and it's, therefore, fairly easy for others to see what you've been doing. Since Wikipedia is a part of the :WP:REALWORLD, how others might try to use that information is pretty much beyond Wikipedia's control. For this reason, user's who chose a user name of a specific identifiable person (i.e. a person who is the subject of a Wikipedia article) sometimes are asked to verify their identity per :WP:VRT as a precaution against damaging impersonation. Such editors seem to particularly attract attention when they edit or create content about themselves on Wikipedia; so, you probably should keep that in mind moving forward.{{pb}}Finally, your article wasn't deleted per se; rather it was :WP:DRAFTIFY(ied) by someone with this edit here due to their concerns that it was created by a paid editor. I'm not sure why they did that since they're actually the user who created the article back in March 2023. Do you remember paying anyone to create a Wikipedia article about you? Anyway, Explicit felt the draftification was inappropriate and "moved" the page back to the :WP:ARTICLENAMESPACE. For referene, Wikipedia articles are generally only deleted when they have problems that can't be fixed (e.g., a lack of :WP:NOTABILITY) and typically this is determined through a community discussion at :WP:AFD, but undisclosed paid editing is a violation of the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of service and articles can be deleted for such a reason. So, if you've previously interacted with the user who created the article about you, you might want to reach out to them to ask why they draftified it. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:20, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
