Help us improve the Wikipedia Education Program

Hi Jennyxwen! As a student editor on Wikipedia, you have a lot of valuable experience about what it's like to edit as a part of a classroom assignment. In order to help other students like you enjoy editing while contributing positively to Wikipedia, it's extremely helpful to hear from real student editors about their challenges, successes, and support needs. Please take a few minutes to answer these questions by clicking below. (Note that the responses are posted to a public wiki page.) Thanks!

File:Information.svg Hello, I'm Excirial. I wanted to let you know that I undid one of your recent contributions, such as the one you made with [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purdah?diff=549724651 this edit] to :Purdah, because it didn’t appear constructive to me. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks, Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 18:41, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

removing categories

Dear Jennyxwen, could you please stop removing the categories from the article? Categories are needed for every page on wikipedia. Thanks. --Turn685 (talk) 20:30, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

Hi Turn685, I'm not sure what categories you mean, could you clarify? Thanks!

Jennyxwen (talk) 23:10, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

:Hi, to answer your question, the category markup at the bottom of the article's editing page (looks like Category:Example) is a part of the article and is supposed to be there (see Help:Category). Categories are added to articles so people can find them when they're browsing subjects (see Wikipedia:Categorization). The template {{islamic female dress}} on the page is an important addition because it helps other people find similar articles close to or about the subject. I'm not sure if this will help but there is a "Show preview" button at the bottom of the editing page next to "save page". This helps to see what the page will look like with your changes without publishing it. It's nice to see someone active in this article. Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions is also a good place to check out for questions about editing --Turn685 (talk) 23:43, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

::I hope you don't mind but I've made the photo have a caption and added the categories to the bottom. The "show preview" button is something I couldn't live without on here! Good job on the reference changes. --Turn685 (talk) 23:55, 12 April 2013 (UTC)

:::Double checking the article and saw it's more of a cultural thing so I removed the clothing categories and template. I'm sorry for bothering you and see I have made an error. --Turn685 (talk) 00:03, 13 April 2013 (UTC)

No worries! Learning more about Wikipedia.

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:54, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
