I spent a lot of time these last few days updating the pages of Montreal metropolitan bus terminals which were displaying incorrect information for years.

I edited lots of info which took hours. The list of terminals can be found here at Annex 1: https://www.artm.quebec/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/2521_ARTM_Corpo_PDI_2024_WEB_V4.pdf all the bus lines on each page are the correct ones.

If you are aware of clear guidance on this, please let me know. My view is that punctuation in non-English languages should mostly be preserved. However, if the original script is Latin or Greek, I will usually change curly quotes and apostrophes to straight quotes and apostrophes, and nested quotes (including in article titles) to single. I don't change quotes and apostrophes around in Arabic, Korean, or other scripts. In Arabic I am especially reluctant because I assume that curly single quotes imply an Arabic character. And I assume that most languages don't necessarily use en dash and em dash as we do, so when I copy an article title or proper noun from a non-English source, I leave the hyphens and don't convert to the dash that we would use in English. Again, if you can point to guidance on this, I'd like to see it.

But composing this message leads me to actually try out the URL. Lo and behold, the actual page title is just "Γενική Διεύθυνση Προστασίας Επισήμων και Ευπαθών Στόχων"; "Ελληνική Αστυνομία" is the website. So that means probably all of the page titles need to end before the dash. :Nice work with removing the web site titles. If I am so inclined, I generally change citation titles to match MOS, including changing spaced hyphens to spaced dashes. See MOS:CONFORM, which is about quotations, but I think the same principles apply, as we are essentially quoting the title of something. I also change titles like "Bill Smith : Medal of Honor" to remove the space before the colon (MOS:COLON: "no space should precede a colon"); I see that construction in French titles, mostly. :{{ping|Anomalocaris}} Lurker here. Re the hyphen, people often join bits of web pages and such into titles, quite often with a spaced hyphen between them. But the spaced hyphen is an abomination, imho, with no role in proper orthography, English or otherwise. I often do a global replace of spaced hyphen to spaced en dash, then go back and fix the file names, because that's one place where the practice is common and not so easy to fix. In ref titles, made up or otherwise, I don't see a reason to ever tolerate spaced hyphens. It's basically just the lazy typist's way of indicating a dash. Dicklyon (talk) 16:57, 31 March 2025 (UTC)

Neither those wikidata calls nor {{tl|Population WD}} checks to ensure that the data is reliably sourced. Calling anything related to that coding a "ban" imposed by me is not correct; the consensus on Wikipedia is that data pulled from Wikidata into infobox must be reliably sourced, and I linked to that consensus.

I created {{tl|U.S. SenFoot}} after finding that {{tl|U.S. SenHead}} was in use without its pairing closer, but finding it isn't behaving as I expected and wondered if you might know why. I based it on the similar {{tl|PresHead}} {{tl|PresFoot}} pairing that typically appear on the same set of pages, but where the Pres set closes in an expected way with no unexpected rows, my U.S. SenFoot is closing the table with an unexpected 2020 final row ([https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Zinnober9/sandbox2&oldid=1290408288 example]). Why? I know it's the safesubst line causing it, but since it was built the same way, I'm not sure why I'm getting different results, and the headers for both sets are equivalent (barring the different named column headers/quantity), and Rows for each set seem the same too. If the safesubst line is not needed for any reason, I'm fine with removing, but it seemed important for the Pres set so thought it might be important here too. ::If the Sen tables (at this moment) are typically a single row on articles right now with likelihood of being filled more, I guess it makes sense to change the existing SenRows to SenFoots with edit notes explaining "use Row for all Rows except the oldest, use a filled SenFoot for oldest (final) row".

::If I had created both sets and were considering their construction, I think I would have had both footers not accept parameters so that it wasn't potentially confusing for the change when there's a new "oldest" row or a table goes from single row to 2+ rows, but it doesn't bother me enough to go and uproot the PresFoot. And right now I think there's a benefit to them both behaving the same way. If both should be changed to empty Foots, then that would be (I think) a simple bot task once the pages have SenFoots and not |} closing these tables. As for the presidential one, yes, I would strongly recommend changing the template so that it is just an end template and asking for an AWB run (if there is no objection) to convert the current populated Presfoot templates into Presrow templates, then add an end template that is just a table ending. ::::::I created SenFoot this morning when I realized its absence after looking at the unclosed table lint error on Lawrence County, Ohio. Fixed that with a table closer for the time being, but didn't find that fix ideal and discovered that SenHead stated the intent of SenFoot usage, but that SenFoot didn't exist so figured I should create it. I then verified with PresHead and PresFoot to see if they were equivalent in idea and created SenFoot based on that. I felt I should test it in my sandbox2 before taking it live to make sure it worked as intended before adding it to the 300 pages that use SenHead, but found the Footer worked differently than expected. You came in at this point and know the rest from above.

:::::::Any template that is a simple table closure should redirect to {{tl|end}}. There are a couple of TFDs somewhere that ended in "Merge" decisions. There is no need to have multiple templates with the same code. I see in Brazoria County, Texas that the article uses table-end wikitext markup; replacing that markup with a {{tl|U.S. SenFoot}} that is a redirect to {{tl|end}} would be the most sensible way to mark up that article, I think.

Jonesey, is the report generation system smart enough to look inside articles and see if links are hidden by piping? The only reason to be fixing those is to whittle down the report, but some object that that's not a good enough reason. The report becomes much less useful when it's dominated by such things, e.g. as in the case of tens of thousands of US Census related piped links to over-capitalized redirects. I don't understand why you refused the edit request. It's enough for the reader to simply click on the flag icon to know what it refers to. Many people don't even know what these codes refer to in the first place. The template edit done by GKFX in November 2021 was a mistake!
