Question from Yarmuk band (09:34, 28 March 2025)

Hi. I would like to write about a band from Malaysia. Where to start? --Yarmuk band (talk) 09:34, 28 March 2025 (UTC)

:Hi Yarmuk band, it's best that you do not. In my years editing here, I don't think I have ever seen someone successfully create an article they have a conflict of interest with, especially if they are new. You need a change of username if you plan on volunteering here as it kind of goes against our username policy. Justiyaya 14:11, 28 March 2025 (UTC)

Question from CAHwy27 (18:33, 2 April 2025)

In the wiki for Harvey Fletcher is states he co-founded the ASA in 1931. The ASA was started in 1929. Per reference 11 (https://asahistory.org/history-of-the-asa/):

After exploratory inquires by Wallace Waterfall, Floyd Watson, and Vern Knudsen (pictured on the left), a group of some 40 scientists and engineers interested in acoustics met on 27 December 1928 at the Bell Telephone Laboratories in New York, NY, to consider forming a scientific society. Plans developed rapidly and the Acoustical Society of America was formally organized and held its first meeting 10-11 May 1929 with a charter membership of about 450.

In 1931 the Acoustical Society joined with three other scientific societies to form the American Institute of Physics, an organization designed to unite physics-related groups and to provide facilities for publishing and other common activities. The Institute now has 10 Member Societies covering a range of physics-related interests. --CAHwy27 (talk) 18:33, 2 April 2025 (UTC)

:@CAHwy27 Thanks for that recommendation, I've changed it accordingly. I've also changed the wording from "co-founded" to "organized the founding of" as I think it makes more sense considering he did so with like 40 other people and it reflects the source better. Question from 600600again (07:43, 4 April 2025)

hello, I have tried to make an amendment and wasn't allowed. I have made the request now by reporting it but no changes. Please advise. --600600again (talk) 07:43, 4 April 2025 (UTC)

:Hi @600600again, I've briefly looked over the edit filter logs and I think the links on the bottom of your talk page would be insightful. You should consider contributing somewhere else if you would like to volunteer here. Justiyaya 14:13, 4 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from Indra bahadur damai on Kevin Yi (14:00, 4 April 2025)

Hello how to start here? --Indra bahadur damai (talk) 14:00, 4 April 2025 (UTC)

:Hi Indra bahadur damai, welcome to Wikipedia! That article is quite difficult. It is about something that would probably have mostly Chinese sources and contains a notability tag. I don't suppose you speak the language, and I'd say that you're a bit too new for dealing with notability. Consider looking first through the Help:Introduction, then picking another article to work on, perhaps with the Wikipedia:Task Center. Justiyaya 14:25, 4 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from GraisonParkhurst (16:26, 4 April 2025)

How do I add references (e.g, The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog [1])? --GraisonParkhurst (talk) 16:27, 4 April 2025 (UTC)

:Hi @GraisonParkhurst, WP:Referencing for beginners was a page I would have found helpful when starting out. The specifics depend on what editor you are using (visual or source), but this should be a good page to start. Justiyaya 16:32, 4 April 2025 (UTC)

::Also, I see that you are just starting out! I remember really liking this youtube video a while ago, it gives a really nice introduction if you have around 30 free minutes. Justiyaya 16:35, 4 April 2025 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – April 2025

Question from CuriousScribe007 (17:47, 8 April 2025)

Hello, I hope you're doing well.

My article was rejected with the following feedback:

"This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia."

I now have reliable and independent sources that directly mention the individual and provide significant coverage. These meet all the criteria outlined in the notability guidelines.

Would it be possible to receive assistance with reviewing or resubmitting the article based on these updated references?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards, --CuriousScribe007 (talk) 17:47, 8 April 2025 (UTC)

:Hi @CuriousScribe007, I looked over the article and agree with the bits about significant coverage. I used a translator app and the sources all seem to be focused on the embassy and not the person himself, you'd need more references as none of them really contributes to notability, which as the reviewer said, requires coverage in multiple "published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject". Writing an article about a living person is one of the more difficult things a new Wikipedia editor could do and you might want to consider volunteering somewhere else. Question from Devadatta98277 (00:20, 12 April 2025)

I don't want to edit anything rigt now. I just wanted to use Wikipedia to look up stuff. I can't seem to find how to do that from my member page. --Devadatta98277 (talk) 00:20, 12 April 2025 (UTC)

:@Devadatta98277 That is totally fine! I'm guessing you are referring to Special:Homepage, which you can disable by unchecking the "Newcomer Homepage" boxes at the bottom of this page. There are still benenfits from making an account! There are some userscripts that might interest you, the one from User:Novem Linguae/Scripts/CiteHighlighter is personally useful if you're using Wikipedia for research. Happy browsing and going down Wikipedia rabbit holes! Justiyaya 04:13, 12 April 2025 (UTC)

Hello .May you please advise me on how to add tables divide my work like articles do on Wikipedia .I have published an article but I still have to do editing in terms of ,table ,division of information, fonts and etc. I would appreciate your help in that regard . --Motheo Masuku (talk) 17:41, 12 April 2025 (UTC)

:@Motheo Masuku: Help:Tables might be of use. I can't really help further unless you give me the name of the article. Justiyaya 08:38, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from Adiru kaijagr on Draft:Mr.dizzoh (07:54, 14 April 2025)

how to add photo --Adiru kaijagr (talk) 07:54, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

:Hi @Adiru kaijagr, I don't think the subject is notable, could you consider contributing to something else here if you intend to volunteer? I don't want your time to be wasted on a subject that can't get an article. I do appreciate the conflict of interest declaration though. Justiyaya 08:42, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

Help with Soul GA nomination

Hi, @Justiyaya! Since we last spoke, I have successfully promoted 2 articles to GA level (those being Religious responses to the problem of evil and classical theism).

Now, I am working with two other editors on improving the article about Soul. However, we have run into two big problems that aren't related with the contents of the article, but rather with its presentation: italics and blue links. The entire article has very inconsistent usage of them. If you have a bit of time, I would be extremely grateful if you helped fixed these things in that article. Brent Silby (talk) 20:51, 17 April 2025 (UTC)

:Hi @Brent Silby, that is excellent news and great progress! I think I will be quite busy in the next month or so and will be on WikiBreak unfortunately. If I have a moment I would certainly try to. Happy editing! Justiyaya 00:31, 18 April 2025 (UTC)

 • Following an RfC, administrator elections were permanently authorized on a five-month schedule. The next election will be scheduled soon; see Wikipedia talk:Administrator elections for more information. This is an alternate process to the RfA process and does not replace the latter.
 • An RfC was closed with consensus to allow editors to opt-out of seeing "sticky decorative elements". Such elements should now be wrapped in sticky decoration wrapper. Editors who wish to opt out can follow the instructions at WP:STICKYDECO.
 • An RfC has resulted in a broad prohibition on the use of AI-generated images in articles. A few common-sense exceptions are recognized.
