[[Wikipedia:Proposed deletion|Proposed deletion]] of [[J. Wesley Thompson‎]]

Image:Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article J. Wesley Thompson‎ has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. :Hi Espresso Addict.

:Please forgive what I'm sure will be a very obvious discussion with a Wikipedia "newbie." This is my first use of the talk page.

:I hope I'll be able to address concerns with the J. Wesley Thompson page but I'm sure I'll have a few questions. Let me address the easiest one first. Mr. Thompson did not know that he shouldn't edit his own page because I never discussed creating the page with him, knowing that would be inappropriate. He found a couple minor errors and corrected them without knowing the protocols of Wikipedia. While I do know Mr. Thompson, the creation of the page was completely my idea and he did not even know of its existence until after the fact. Would the appropriate action be to undo his changes and make those minor edits myself?

:I also completely understand the "cv-like" concerns and will make changes to address those, if I am able to address the third reason for deletion appropriately.

:As for the WP:PROF issue, I am hopeful that Mr. Thompson meets the #2 criteria (The person has received a highly prestigious academic award or honor at a national or international level) based upon his selection as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. He was awarded this in 2008, and currently there are only 795 persons bearing the title. Roughly only 100 persons receive this honor per year. Mr. Thompson may also meet criteria #7 (The person has made substantial impact outside academia in their academic capacity) based upon the fact that he is a highly sought after lecturer regarding HIV/AIDS at the local, state and national levels, speaking at more than 50 functions in the last year alone.

:I look forward to your input and guidance.

::Hi MacGyvr -- I've reviewed your response and still believe that Mr Thompson probably does not meet Wikipedia's notability requirements, and have accordingly started a community deletion discussion for the article (see the below notification for how to join the discussion). I will respond in detail to your points at the article's talk page in order to keep discussion in one place. Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 00:55, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
