Question from Bill Widmer (17:21, 1 April 2025)

Hello.

I have an article to submit that corresponds to your SINCGARS item.

The article describes how General Dynamics won and produced the second source radio system and the lessons learned --Bill Widmer (talk) 17:21, 1 April 2025 (UTC)

:Hi Bill Widmer! Welcome to Wikipedia! Since you're brand new to Wikipedia, I highly recommend that you go through Wikipedia's getting started page and that you complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you make any edits or take on any major tasks around here. Those tutorial pages will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. Most users who take this advice, read through those pages, and complete the new user tutorial usually tell me later that they were significantly helpful to them, and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise. Please let me know if you have any more questions, and I'll be happy to answer them and help you. :-) Again, welcome! Pull up a chair, take off your jacket, and stay with us for awhile! ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:20, 9 April 2025 (UTC)

hi can I ADD SOMETHING TO PRAISE THE ARTIST --Stayfor meeee (talk) 12:48, 2 April 2025 (UTC)

:Hi Stayfor meeee! Welcome to Wikipedia! "Praising" someone in an article is against Wikipedia's policy on adding content that's written to reflect a neutral point of view, so please don't do that. Instead, I highly recommend that you go through Wikipedia's getting started page and that you complete Wikipedia's new user tutorial before you make any edits or take on any major tasks around here. Quick note

Hey Oshwah, I sent you a message on Discord a couple weeks ago, not sure if you saw it. Just wanted to let you know. Thanks! The4lines |||| (Talk) (Contributions) 23:36, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

:The4lines - I'm so sorry, my dear friend... I'm going through A LOT of things right now in my personal life, and I haven't been very good (as in "I've been horrible") at being online on IRC or Discord for awhile because of this. This may explain my (lack of) actions, but it doesn't excuse them. I apologize; I'll jump on and take a look.... ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:45, 4 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from Elton Ngcobo (14:12, 11 April 2025)

Greetings, My mentor.

Kindly guide me on how to create my biography Wikipedia page as a businessman and a politician, and the suitable templates i can choose from.

Thanks. --Elton Ngcobo (talk) 14:12, 11 April 2025 (UTC)

:Hi Elton Ngcobo! Welcome to Wikipedia! Creating an autobiography about yourself is a highly discouraged activity on Wikipedia. Autobiographies are problematic, as they usually contain significant amounts of original research (which is not allowed on Wikipedia), and are usually biased to favor the article subject (which would be you). As you can imagine, it's nearly impossible for users to write an article about themselves and do so in order to reflect a neutral point of view - another requirement for all Wikipedia articles. Users and patrollers will see the page you created and bring forth the concerns regarding Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines, which would be an obvious concern as well... I mean, can you blame them? :-) To put this situation into a perspective for you: Of of the 100 articles I've seen users create about themselves (autobiographies), I'll easily say that 99-100 of them end up being deleted. I don't want you to be left feeling disheartened nor let you spend hours of time for all of it to go completely wasted (very likely) when the article is deleted.

:Instead, I recommend that you focus your time, energy, and your goals - why write or expand content toward other articles that already exist and learn the ropes and understand how things work first? What subjects, places, people, or hobbies interest you? There's likely a WikiProject that exists and for users who are interested in the exact same thing. Find a WikiProject that interests you; they'll have lots of articles, pages, and subjects that you can help improve or expand that relate to your interests. From my personal experience, participating with others and making improvements is a lot of fun and comes with some awesome challenges. From there, you can learn about article creation and the policies and guidelines that apply to doing so, and build experience from there.

:Please let me know if I can help you with anything else, and I'll be happy to do so. Again, welcome! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:13, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from Sadpal11 (15:09, 11 April 2025)

Hi there! I saw this note added in my page area. I like to organize things so I thought of doing changes on some lists. Do you know what other ways I can help organize things on wikipedia? --Sadpal11 (talk) 15:09, 11 April 2025 (UTC)

:Hi Sadpal11! Welcome aboard! It's great to have you here! Have you gone through Wikipedia's getting started or new user tutorial pages? If not, I highly recommend that you do so. These tutorial pages will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. Most users who take this advice, read through those pages, and complete the new user tutorial usually tell me later that they were significantly helpful to them, and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise. If you still have more questions or need assistance after reading through those pages, please let me know and I'll be more than happy to assist you. Thanks for the message, and again - welcome to Wikipedia! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:18, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from Sadpal11 (15:10, 11 April 2025)

Also I saw a pop-up with suggested edits. Can I make changes to any? --Sadpal11 (talk) 15:10, 11 April 2025 (UTC)

:Sadpal11 - YES! One of Wikipedia's policies as well as our core principles encourages users to be bold! If there's a mistake in an article somewhere? Edit the page and fix it! Is there something missing? Add it! Mistakes are inevitable, and our policies and principles call for helping new users and letting them know about mistakes made as opposed to pointing fingers, talking down to users, nagging them, and leaving them feeling disheartened and discouraged. I've made MORE than my fair share of mistakes on Wikipedia over the 18 years that I've been a member here. If it weren't for these guidelines and for the principles that we establish and hold ourselves to, many new users (including myself at the time) probably wouldn't be here today. Don't worry about the little things... help us make Wikipedia better! If you do something wrong or make a mistake, we assume good faith in unclear situations (so long as you don't do anything malicious) and provide you with information and help with how to improve your participation and your edits. Do you need more help or assistance? Let me know! I'll be happy to help you! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:24, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from PublicRelations101101 (02:31, 13 April 2025)

Hey I’m trying to write a article about a new public figure how to I start a page for her I’m trying to take classes but I really need a page written for her I have one written already I need to cut and paste it in --PublicRelations101101 (talk) 02:31, 13 April 2025 (UTC)

:PublicRelations101101 - Who exactly is the article subject (the person you're trying to write about)? Have you gone through Wikipedia's getting started or new user tutorial pages? If not, I highly recommend that you do so. These tutorial pages will provide you with many important walkthroughs, guides, interactive lessons, and other information that will familiarize you with our policies and guidelines, how Wikipedia works, how to navigate around the site, and how to find important locations and pages. Most users who take this advice, read through those pages, and complete the new user tutorial usually tell me later that they were significantly helpful to them, and saved them hours of time and frustration they would've experienced otherwise.

:Also, I need to caution you about the username that you chose for your account. While I don't see it as a direct violation of Wikipedia's username policy, some users might. "Public Relations" could be interpreted as being a department for a company, organization, etc. and imply shared use. You might consider creating a new account with a unique and individual username for yourself, just like mine is. :-) Please let me know if I can answer any more questions and help you, and I'll be happy to do so. :-) Best - ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:30, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from Maria Bena (11:33, 14 April 2025)

Hi Oswah, I am new in the wikipedia. I have made 3 edits so far. In three differentt acticles I have added external links. For Emissions intensity I have added a specific blog I ahev written about emissions intensity. For Sustainable Biofuel I have added a link that leads to an e-book which analyses the role of biofuels in GHG emissions reduction. For Electrick truck I have added a link that leads to a report which analysis the future of electrick trucks. I work for a startup company which uses primary data to calculate Scope 3 emissions in all transportation modes. We have data analysts and we publish regularly reports, white papers and e-books on different themes around sustainability. By leveraging primary data we are able to have an in-depth view on sustainability issues. Our detailed analysis have been included and used by journalists in their thought and or reserach pieces (CNBC, Financial Times,Supply chain Brain, Eco-Business to name a few). Can this be considered paid advocacy? We have a seperate resource page where we publish all our research documents, so each link directs to a landing page where the document can be accessed for free. So the uploaded links do not lead the reader to our general landing page or our services page , which in my mind, would be considered advertising. I am asking because I have been contacted by Wikipedia for the "nature of my edits". I would like to understand exactly what is allowed or not allowed so I can comply with the Wikipedia policy. --Maria Bena (talk) 11:33, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

:You are clearly editing in conflict with Wikipedia's interest; instead you are prioritizing your own interest, inserting your own work. Based on your comments here, your actions DO constitute paid editing. If you attempt to reinsert this document again ANYWHERE on Wikipedia, expect to be blocked by some passing admin. :Hi Bonta86! Post an edit request on the article's talk page with the issue and exactly what should be changed. Include the exact text that needs to be removed or replaced (if any), and include the text that should be added. Someone will review your request and respond. Please let me know if I can answer any more questions and I'll be happy to help you. :-) Welcome aboard! ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 22:32, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

Question from ForayHistory (02:20, 26 April 2025)

Hi! I’ve created a draft article about Fr James Higgins, a Catholic missionary priest from Ireland who served in Nigeria for over 60 years. He was awarded the Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) by the Nigerian government and also received a papal honour. Furthermore, he authored two published books as well as featuring in other historical books. He has been reported as the longest-serving Irish missionary in Nigeria.

The draft was declined due to insufficient independent sources. I’ve included references from SMA, oral histories, and obituary notices, but would like help:

How can I strengthen the article with more reliable, independent sources?

Would adding awards (like the MFR) require a government source, and where could I find this?

What tags or templates can I use to help reviewers understand this is a historically significant religious figure?

Here’s the draft: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:ForayHistory/sandbox --ForayHistory (talk) 02:20, 26 April 2025 (UTC)
