Croissant

Hi @PhilKnight, user Woodlandscaley changed origin of croissant to Austria despite consensus in the talk page. It is not the first time he does that. 84.242.14.170 (talk) 09:35, 17 March 2025 (UTC)

:@PhilKnight in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Croissant there is a section called Austria where consensus was reached. Despite that, an user changed it to Austria again a few days ago. The same user did that serveral times, for example the 27th of June 2024. 84.242.14.170 (talk) 10:03, 19 March 2025 (UTC)

SUPPRESSION OF MY EDITS REVEALING PERSONAL INFORMATION

Greetings, PhilKniht. Thank you for your help in eliminating that information. I had added that so that the concerned user can comprehend my working but eventually I was also reconsidering to withdraw that. Madamrose1965 (talk) 22:20, 22 March 2025 (UTC)

Per my barnstar above

User:2402:8100:2798:B088:AD58:A631:6878:D75D is violating their talk page access by continuing to harass me and you, including by spamming pings. I probably should have asked earlier, given how long this has gone on, but I was hoping it would be discovered and stopped by now -- would you be cool with revoking TPA there? I saw you blocked, 2600:387:15:1817:0:0:0:0/64 already, but judging from the page history. It seems going back at least a week that the full mobile range used is closer to 2600:387:0:0:0:0:0:0/32. SPI

Hello! I would like to ask for advice on how to merge a preexisting SPI archive with an older SPI. On retrospection, I have reason to believe that Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dietricht may actually be connected to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dirceu Mag and socks @Magi Merlin and @Bolt Kjerag on grounds of same POV-pushing, WP:WALLOFTEXT and WP:BATTLEGROUND behavior on elections and polling, not to mention the ability to misspell my username multiple times. Borgenland (talk) 11:58, 10 April 2025 (UTC)

: Hi {{u|Borgenland}}, I have taken the case out of archive and left a request for the clerks. PhilKnight (talk) 13:27, 10 April 2025 (UTC)

User:Rattlingbog55

Hi. I'm not sure whether you generally accept requests to re-evaluate your CU blocks, but if so I'd like to call attention to the follow-up discussion at User talk:Rattlingbog55#Blocked for sockpuppetry. In short, the SPI you closed rested on the assumption of UPE by the case filer (which I would have disputed had I been pinged when one of my interactions with the user was cited). In the follow-up discussion, however, the user explained that the change of accounts was due to privacy concerns (WP:LEGITSOCK), and two admins pretty much came to the conclusion that the explanation was legitimate, though neither was willing act on an unblock due to other concerns. I advised the user to file a second unblock request, but it seems that given the previous discussion, no uninvolved admin was eager to look into the case, and it has been left sitting for half a month now. --Paul_012 (talk) 10:34, 20 April 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I am here to report a edit war, (i dont really understand the ANI)

Hello, Admin Philknight, I am Shaneapickle and I am just mediating this situation.

So anyways, here is the situation, we have 2 users (i am trying to mediate this war), Kajmer05 and MHD1234567890, MHD is claiming that Kajmer is going after kurdish nationalist pages, but when I asked him about it, he said that he did not do that,

Here are the two talk pages i discussed with them.

User talk:MHD1234567890#Hello, MHD1234567890

and

User talk:Kajmer05#Hello, I came here from MHD's page

This has already turned into an edit war due to MHD and Kajmer's claims against each other.

I hope you will help to resolve this situation. Shaneapickle (talk) 15:34, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

:{{tps}} The appropriate venue to report an edit war is WP:AN3 - the administrator's noticeboard for edit warring. Departure– (talk) 15:38, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

:: {{u|Shaneapickle}}, which articles are affected by the edit warring? PhilKnight (talk) 20:53, 22 April 2025 (UTC)

:::i misworded this before i knew the actual thing, it's a disagreement, we also have 1 person (*cough cough* MHD) throwing mud at Kajmer for removing MHD's pages, when the AFD is correct about the pages and their structure, and being the reason for the deletion (kajmer is just enforcing the pages) Shaneapickle (talk) 12:27, 23 April 2025 (UTC)

::::: I'm not yet convinced that admin action is required. Editors often get grumpy when their pages are deleted, and I don't usually block them for that. Has there been any particularly offensive personal attacks? PhilKnight (talk) 14:58, 23 April 2025 (UTC)

::::::no not really, although MHD did say that kajmer did appear motivated by "anti-kurdish nationalist sentiments" Shaneapickle (talk) 15:10, 23 April 2025 (UTC)

::::::: You could warn them with {{tl|Uw-npa2}}. If they continue, they could be warned again with {{tl|npa3}}, and if they still continue, a short block could be applied. PhilKnight (talk) 15:55, 23 April 2025 (UTC)

WP:DUCK [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3AKajmer05&diff=1287320813&oldid=1286924784] I could file an SPI, but I'm asking this because they're so obvious. Hi, I was reading a page on "Non-logical symbol" and read the "Talk" tab aside from "Article". Then I saw the latest comment, which is an unsigned one that looks suspicious (seems like trolling):

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Non-logical_symbol#c-93.229.109.29-20240925210600-…_to_or_or_to_or_…?

I was interested in the reason why these kinds of users weren't banned until I saw the following page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:93.229.109.29

Anyway, thank you for making wiki a better place.

Urgent

Sorry to bother you, but Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard#J-P Conte is way more serious than it appears at first glance and may implicate an administrator in a paid editing scheme. Wasn't sure where else to turn, and I saw you were active. I strongly recommend it be looked into thoroughly, before the associated documents are taken down. MediaKyle (talk) 03:10, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

:I'm an idiot. I thought I was replying here, when I replied on the COI noticeboard. It's late and I'm a little shocked at what's been uncovered. Do you want me to send you what I'm talking about? MediaKyle (talk) 03:45, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

:: I don't think I'm the best person for that, I don't have any experience in COI Noticeboard cases. Sorry. PhilKnight (talk) 03:47, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

:::I understand. I guess it might be in my best interest to just let this go, but there is credible evidence out there that suggests a current administrator was involved in an expansive undisclosed paid editing scheme. It may be worth mentioning this to someone who does work in this area. Thanks, MediaKyle (talk) 03:50, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

:::: I think you should email ArbCom about this. PhilKnight (talk) 03:51, 29 April 2025 (UTC)

disruptive editing designation

Hey Phil,

You marked me as disruptive on https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=International_Communist_Party&action=history

I'm reaching out so that does not happen again.

internationalcommunistparty.org is listed as first but the wiki page was written specifically to reflect the activity of ICP of international-communist-party.org, so the other links need to either be removed or at least placed in lower order.

I wrote the vast majority of the contents of that page, so, if anything the recent edits are disruptive.

Also they seem to be massively exaggerating their activity, supposedly regularly publishing in French, German, Serbo-Croat, Romanian and Swedish along with English and Italian. In turn, the page does not even say international-communist-party.org publishes regularly in Turkish, while by the standard of the new edits we publish regularly in numerous languages, and have for example published more than the the other sites in French since the split last year. I think the objectivity of the posters who made such edits can be questioned. Yameezy1917 (talk) 02:30, 2 May 2025 (UTC)

:: Hi Yameezy1917, I protected and described the protection as disruptive editing because you were one of two editors reverting and calling the other editor a vandal. PhilKnight (talk) 18:38, 2 May 2025 (UTC)

:::Can you address the other issues I brought up? Would it be disruptive if I reverted the page to a page that does not misrepresent the facts of the subject under question but without using name-calling? I can see a situation where one person is reverting but misrepresenting facts and the other is trying to fix this and getting a bit frustrated. Yameezy1917 (talk) 17:45, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

::::: You should try to establish consensus on the talk page, and not continue edit warring. PhilKnight (talk) 17:48, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

::::::I have posted to the talk page but the problem is they are not reading or responding to it. If they don't respond, what recourse do I have? Yameezy1917 (talk) 17:50, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

:::::::: You haven't posted to the talk page this year. See WP:Dispute resolution. PhilKnight (talk) 17:52, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

:::::::::Appologies, I had the post prepped on my phone but forgot to hit send. The post is up now for discussion. Yameezy1917 (talk) 18:07, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

Guotaian sock?

Phil, I blocked {{noping|Guotaian}} for violating 3RR. Their appeal was declined. A new account, {{noping|Powerpolnow}}, [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Guotaian&diff=prev&oldid=1288805067 requested an unblock] very similar to the user's first unblock request. The new user then reverted their edit in less than a minute. Before those two edits, all the articles the new user edited were ones that Goutain had also edited. Behaviorally, it's obvious, but just in case it's a joe-job, although it doesn't seem likely based on their revert of the unblock request, could you check? Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 21:17, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

: Hi {{u|Bbb23}}, the 2 accounts are {{unrelated}}, however it appears {{np|Powerpolnow}} is a sock of {{np|Pimplescrote}}. PhilKnight (talk) 00:43, 5 May 2025 (UTC)

::Thanks, Phil, I've tagged the two accounts.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:38, 5 May 2025 (UTC)

  • Following an RfC, administrator elections were permanently authorized on a five-month schedule. The next election will be scheduled soon; see Wikipedia talk:Administrator elections for more information. This is an alternate process to the RfA process and does not replace the latter.
  • An RfC was closed with consensus to allow editors to opt-out of seeing "sticky decorative elements". Such elements should now be wrapped in {{t|sticky decoration wrapper}}. Editors who wish to opt out can follow the instructions at WP:STICKYDECO.
  • An RfC has resulted in a broad prohibition on the use of AI-generated images in articles. A few common-sense exceptions are recognized.
