BLP Guo Guangchang
Hi Piotrus, I am reaching out to you as a member of WP:BLP. Would you mind weighing in on an edit request that I posted? You'll find it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Guo_Guangchang. The current language about Guo's involvement with the Party General Secretary's anti-corruption efforts is not supported by the sources on the page, and the language in the entire paragraph is speculative with excessive detail. I had a discussion going with another editor, but he hasn't responded in over a month. I would appreciate your opinion here, as I would like to bring this page more in line with WP:BLP standards. Thank you very much. RogerEdit (talk) 12:08, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

Articles for deletion/Bahnus
Comment. I wonder if something here could be rescued by rewriting this into an article about the music group or the scandal itself? [https://sports.khan.co.kr/article/201006201551403?cat=view&pt=nv This Korean source], cited in the article, states that "the plagiarism suspicions surrounding singer Lee Hyo-ri's album, which had been causing a stir in the music industry for a month, have been partially confirmed to be true, causing a huge backlash. The expression 'the greatest plagiarism fraud case' is also appearing." This suggests that there are other sources out there - and also, that the article focus should be on the scandal, not the individual (who seems not very notable - we don't even have their birth date or pretty much anything about their life outside this scandal). Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bahnus
Hi, and thanks for your thoughtful comment - and pardon my delayed reply. I haven't been actively involved in Wikipedia editing for a while, and I'm not fully versed in all the platform's formal processes or terminology. Still, I’d like to offer some context that might clarify where I'm coming from.
I originally created the article on Bahnus (Lee Jae-young) because I felt it was necessary to document what remains one of the most significant plagiarism scandals in K-pop history. As you pointed out, the available information on Bahnus is extremely limited — and that in itself is telling. Outside of this scandal, almost nothing is known or documented about him in English, and most Korean sources are difficult for the average editor to verify or even access. The scandal is essentially the defining event associated with his name, and it’s also a critical moment in K-pop’s evolution into a more globalized, scrutinized industry.
You're absolutely right that this case might be better presented through a broader lens - whether that's as a standalone article about the H-Logic plagiarism scandal, or as a properly expanded section within the H-Logic album page or Lee Hyori’s biography. However, what’s happened instead is that the information has been splintered and then steadily eroded.
When I first wrote the Bahnus page, it served as the primary hub for the details of the case. But over time, coverage on Lee Hyori’s page was reduced, the H-Logic section was minimized, and eventually the only reference to the scandal was a link to the Bahnus article - which is now itself being considered for deletion. This effectively removes public visibility of a case that was once widely reported, both in Korean media and (to a lesser degree) in English-language outlets like Allkpop and Soompi. While these are often categorized as "gossip" sites, they were, at the time, among the few outlets reporting consistently on K-pop in English. And mainstream Korean sources did eventually cover the court case once Hyori's agency took legal action against Bahnus.
A further complication is that these sources have become harder to find over time - defunct domains, broken links, and site closures all play a role. But this is all the more reason to preserve what we do have. The producer is obscure, the details are sparse, and the window into this moment in K-pop history is narrow - but that’s precisely why deletion would mean erasing something that can't easily be restored.
I’d also like to acknowledge something that may not be entirely in line with assuming good faith, but which I believe is worth raising: the gradual removal of this controversy from Lee Hyori’s page seems to align with a pattern seen elsewhere on Wikipedia, where negative or controversial information about popular public figures - especially in fan-heavy spaces like K-pop - is quietly minimized over time. I’m not suggesting coordinated whitewashing, but it's not unthinkable that devoted fans might prioritize image over completeness. And given that Lee Hyori went into a multi-year hiatus shortly after the scandal, the controversy faded from mainstream attention.
At this point, I do understand if consensus deems Bahnus himself non-notable - but I strongly believe the scandal itself is. If deletion proceeds, I’d urge editors to at least preserve the historical and contextual value of the case by merging key material into the H-Logic album article or creating a dedicated page on the H-Logic plagiarism scandal. As it stands now, a case once described in Korean press as “the greatest plagiarism fraud in the K-pop industry” has been reduced to a broken link(Bahnus § H-Logic by Lee Hyori) and a single phrase. That’s a disservice to the integrity of documenting music history.
Thanks again for raising a constructive question. I hope this adds useful context to the discussion and the preservation of this documentation. Intouchwithbertj (talk) 17:41, 14 May 2025 (UTC)
:@Intouchwithbertj Thank you for the thoughtful reply. First, the page has been deleted, but you can ask for it to be undeleted and moved to your sandbox, so you could use it to create the article about the scandal (see WP:UNDELETE and ask me for help if necessary). Second, you are likely right about the trend of removal of such information, although I'd assume this is mostly done openly as the community strives to adhere to the WP:BLP and WP:NPOV policies. As for sourcing, hopefully some broken links are accessible through the Internet Archive or such. Other coverage may exist offline (for example, I recently increasingly use offline sources while writing about Polish fantastika topics, as I realized that close to 80% if not more of book reviews and such are not digitized and some are not even indexed in online catalogues). As such, sources for the scandal likely exist - but they are likely 1) in Korean (which I don't speak well) and 2) in Korean magazines or books, many of which are not digitized and require old style library page-turnining queries. I do believe Wikipedia is the best place to cover such topics, but we must adhere to quality-ensuring policies (from aforementioned BLP/NPOV to WP:OR). It is not an easy task (I've been active on Wikipedia for 20 years, I am also a scholar, publishing academic works, and I can say that my research and article writing skills are still improving every year as I learn how to look for better sources, and how to write better, despite being a middle-aged guy with close two two decades of experience in writing). I hope you'll be able to create a good page on this interesting event (scandal), feel free to ask me for any help related to Wikipedia how-to (sadly, due to my limited Korean, I cannot find sources, but I may be able to download some if you find some paywalled that you'd like - I actually work at a Korean university). PS. If you haven't tried, do check the very useful WP:The Wikipedia Library tool. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:44, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
