Marketing splits

Why did you split out the marketing section of each Olympic article without consensus? ViperSnake151  Talk  16:28, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Marketing splits

Why did you split out the marketing section of each Olympic article? I'm really just wondering, and the timing of your decision to start archiving your talk page seemed like you didn't want to talk about it. ViperSnake151  Talk  15:02, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

Images

Explain to me exactly (precisely and in some detail) what you're doing uploading dozens of images. Nick (talk) 20:55, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

:You explained to me that I can't upload them on Commons as they are copyrighted, so I decided to move them to Wikipedia as they are not fair use in Commons. You mentioned to me that "fair use" materials are not acceptable here. I'm uploading them because every sports organizations that their own flags. I am uploading them on Wikipedia just for fair use. I am uploading this for a good reason. RainbowSilver2ndBackup (talk) 21:01, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

::Hi RainbowSilver2ndBackup. While it's true that Wikipedia does allow some copyrighted content to be uploaded and used as non-free content, this doesn't mean that such content can just be automatically added to articles or other pages. You need to make sure that the content complies with Wikipedia's non-free content use policy. There are ten non-free content use criteria which need to be satisfied for each use of a non-free file, and some of the file's you've uploaded don't really appear to do so. For example, Wikipedia generally allows a copyrighted logo such as :File:IIHF flag.svg or :File:ISSF flag.svg to be uploaded per item 2 of :WP:NFCI when the logo is being used for primary identification purposes in at the top or or in the main infobox of a stand-alone article about the organization or company, etc. question; such files, however, are almost never allowed in other articles (even article related to the parent article) without a much stronger justification for non-free use. So, the non-free use of those two files in articles about (reocurring) events/competitions such as :ISSF World Shooting Championships and :IIHF European Cup is not really acceptable per items 14 and 17 of :WP:NFC#UUI. Instead of the logo of the sponsoring organization, it would be much better for the logo actually used for the event or competition itself. Non-free files can also only be used in articles per relevant policy; so, you cannot add them to templates or any pages outside of the article namespace. Non-free content use is actually quite restrictive and can be tricky to sort out; so, if you've got any questions about it, you can always ask for help at :WT:NFCC or :WP:MCQ. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:38, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

:::Also, I'm worried that they may be an orphaned files, is there's anyway to prevent this from being marked by a bot? In other words, should I be careful? RainbowSilver2ndBackup (talk) 00:40, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

::::One of the non-free content use criteria is non-free content use criteria #7 which states that a non-free file must be used in at at least one file. Non-free files which are not used in at least one file are considered to be "orphaned non-free use" and thus eligible for speedy deletion per :WP:F5. So, the only way to prevent an orphaned from being deleted is to find an article where it can be used in accordance with Wikipedia's non-free content use policy. You shouldn't just add a file to an article just to stop it from being deleted though if the use doesn't comply with relevant policy because it's likely just going to be removed again by someone. For example, :File:Flag of the Olympic Council of Asia.png was removed from :Olympic Council of Asia by Primefac with this edit because the flag file is pretty much the same as :File:Olympic Council of Asia Logo.svg being used in the main infobox and there's no way to justify the non-free use of the flag file per non-free content use criterion #3a.pbAs I posted above, non-free use can be tricky sometimes; so, it might be best for you to slow down a bit and avoid uploading any new non-free files until you get a better feel for Wikipedia's non-free content use policy, or at least ask for help when you not 100% sure a file is OK to upload and use as non-free content. It's OK to make a mistake once maybe even twice, but if non-free files you upload keep getting removed from articles or keep getting flagged for problems, then an administrator might step in and take steps to prevent you from repeating the same mistakes over and over again. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:53, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

:::::I actually posted this on the Asian Games article because I want to let the viewers know what the flag looks like. RainbowSilver2ndBackup (talk) 01:01, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

::::::The readers of that particular article don't really need to see what the flag looks like on that article. If they want to know more about the organization and see the logo, they can click on the hat note and go to the stand-alone article :Olympic Council of Asia. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:29, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

:::::::Am I getting into trouble cause I tried hard. RainbowSilver2ndBackup (talk) 02:04, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

::::::::You're not getting into trouble, but it might be a good idea to just stop uploading any more files or adding them to articles for the time being until everything can be sorted out. Some of the files might only need to have their copyright licensing tweaked for Wikipedia's purposes, but others might need to be deleted. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:48, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:ISSF flag.svg

File:Copyright-problem.svg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to :File:ISSF flag.svg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:25, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

File:Information.svgHi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to :Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Proposed deletion of :List of Olympians killed in the Cold War

File:Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article :List of Olympians killed in the Cold War has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Per various provisions at Wikipedia:Stand-alone lists, a list of just two people does not pass the notability rules for a list article, and the fact that two people share something similar is more a matter of trivia or coincidence. Also, the Vietnam War and Cold War are two different things.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the proposed deletion/dated notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing proposed deletion/dated will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 17:11, 27 January 2019 (UTC)

Doremi

Hi, I reverted your edit because Ojamajo Doremi is already listed on the page List_of_anime_franchises_by_episode_count - Ojamajo Doremi has 219 known episodes.

There are 51 total TV episodes from the original 1999 series, 49 episodes in the 2000 series, 50 episodes in the 2001 series, 51 episodes in the 2002 series, 13 total OVA episodes, 2 films and 3 specials (The cooking special, known unofficially as "Let's Cooking!", Traffic Safety and Bicycle Safety). Yeah, there are. They're just rare to come by and not well-known, though I helped add some on the unofficial Doremi wikia/fandom.com wiki on them. It hasn't been subbed yet (it's in the works) so that also doesn't help. Rctgamer3 (talk) 23:19, 28 January 2019 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on :Time in Eritrea requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://jacarandatours.com/tips.php. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Please stop uploading invalid images

You need to read through RonBot's messages regarding improperly-sized non-free files, and start uploading files of a size that actually meet the requirements. Continued failure to do so could result in sanctions. Primefac (talk) 21:13, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

:Wait, so you are saying that I'm destroying the purpose of uploading? What size should you recommend for me uploading? RainbowSilver2ndBackup (talk) 21:54, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

::I have no idea what destroying the purpose of uploading means, and if anything it sounds incredibly hyperbolic. I'm saying that you've uploaded dozens (maybe hundreds now?) of images that fail our copyright and non-free use requirements, causing unnecessary edits in multiple places. Please read through RonBot's notice, as it contains links to all of the relevant policies and guidelines, including size recommendations. Primefac (talk) 14:54, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

List of Commonwealth Games mascots moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, List of Commonwealth Games mascots, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 07:53, 12 February 2019 (UTC)

:Note: I have added some references and accepted the page. List articles don't usually need a ton of references because they're based on other existing articles, but it would be good to add some more for the non-linked ones like Scottie or Goldie. Primefac (talk) 15:21, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

RMs for 2026 Olympics bidding cities

Hi Rainbow, Please can you visit my page move requests here and here, as you were the originator of the page moves in January. I'm only requesting a minor tweak in the titles but it makes quite a big difference to things in the end. Thanks. Rodney Baggins (talk) 07:34, 13 February 2019 (UTC)

File move requests

Please read the file naming convention, especially the section on what files should and should not be moved, before making another rename request. Files at valid, stable titles are generally not renamed unless their names are misleading or erroneous. "Official name" is not a valid reason on its own to move a file. Furthermore, please do not make file move requests on file talk pages. Using rename media on a talk page makes it more difficult to move the file. Thanks, AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 02:54, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Kiribati National Olympic Committee.png

File:Ambox warning blue.svg Thanks for uploading :File:Kiribati National Olympic Committee.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 03:29, 14 February 2019 (UTC)
