Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. 1. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  2. In a new tab/window, go to the [https://tools.wmflabs.org/makeref/ citation generator], click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.

  4. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like {{cite web | .... }}, copy the whole thing).
  5. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  6. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:

Introduction to contentious topics

{{ivmbox | image = Commons-emblem-notice.svg |imagesize=50px | bg = #E5F8FF | text = You have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{tl|Ctopics/aware}} template.

File:Ambox warning pn.svg You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on :Maratha Empire. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 03:24, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

:No I am not trying to engage in an edit war. Ratnahastin disagreed with me on Source 130 of this article: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Maratha_Empire&diff=prev&oldid=1288642930 and so I have sent him a message on his user talk to try to get a consensus. Please don't block me. I will not engage in an edit war, if I dispute arises I will discuss it and reach a consensus. If it may seem there is an edit war then please do not block me as it might be a friendly disagreement which me and the other people will discuss through consensus. In regards to Padfoot and him saying that I made an exaggerated edit, I do not think I did. Though I appreciate your efforts to settle this dispute. I will discuss with Padfoot, Jonathan Sammy, Joshua Jonathan if they do not like the edit which I made. Please do not think it as an edit war. Also getting a consensus on every sentence in the article is quite redundant and difficult though I can understand the lead since it is the main part of the article. Also even If I put it on the talk page they do not respond to me. What am I supposed to do. For example I had made a post on

:Map of the Marathas and nobody responded even though I had tagged Padfoot Jonathan Sammy, Joshua Jonathan. How am I supposed to get a consensus. Also Padfoot kept on trying to insist on the lead where Marathas are shown as tributary or vassal despite me providng him the sources which say otherwise as well showing how that source of the cambridge history of India clearly did not show Marathas as tributaries of the Mughals. Still Padfoot got another source and rushed to put back that it was recognized as a tributary by Bahadur Shah when the source mearly said I took place as vassal of the Mughal Empire. Even then I showed him letters (primary source) and sources by william dalrymple and RS Chaurasia which said the opposite, that the so-called Maratha vassals had a strong and even controlled the Mughals. How can I get a consensus when he is not moving a budge on his view? I am not attacking Padfoot and I am not making it WP Battleground neither I am asserting that you or Padfoot are acting in bad faith. On the contrary I appreacite what you are doing and I am engaging in good faith and I think you and Padfoot are also doing so but many editors revise my edits even though I gave an explanation. It is very exhausting for me. Many editors like Shakakarta made edits without consensus and they are not punished for doing so. Can you elaborate as to why the message was sent to me. I appreacite your concern. Please tell me. Thank you for reading. Thanks Rama1234567 (talk) 08:06, 4 May 2025 (UTC)

File:Information.svg Hello, I'm SKAG123. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, but we try hard to make sure articles have a neutral point of view. Your recent edit seemed less than neutral and has been removed. If you think this was a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. SKAG123 (talk) 04:06, 5 May 2025 (UTC)

:I would also suggest looking at WP:WBA as edits like these ([https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Raghuji_I&diff=prev&oldid=1288864649 [1] ][https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sadashivrao_Bhau&diff=prev&oldid=1288855998 [2] ]) aren’t even grammatically correct, let alone encyclopedic.
