Anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people. Besides that, you shouldn't feel nervous or anything about a good-willed contribution. If you're concerned, [http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=wikipedia-en-help talk to us].

Play in your user area. For example, create User:Spdiffy/test. If you feel nervous, feel free to [http://webchat.freenode.net/?channels=wikipedia-en-help talk to us].

When you're ready, start your first article using the Article Wizard. You don't HAVE to use it, but for your first article it really helps. ANI report / Canvassing

I saw your report on ANI and was a bit dismayed that you'd WP:Canvass editors like you did [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Abecedare&diff=prev&oldid=322084048 here] but not have the courtesy to notify {{user|Goethean}} of the ANI report.
