| align=left|Wilhelm I, son of King Frederick III, was born in Berlin in 1797. In 1829, William I married Augusta, producing two children Frederick II (Crown Prince) (1831–1888) and Princess Louise (1838–1923). William I succeeded as King of Prussia in 1861, later becoming the first German Emperor in 1871. William I died in 1888.

| align=left|Frederick III, born in 1831, succeeded Wilhelm I in 1888, but also died in 1888. Frederick married Princess Victoria, the first child of ( Empress ) Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Frederick III had eight children, including his heir Crown Prince Wilhelm. Frederick III ruled for 99 days.
