re: signature etc
I use four tildes. What I do is go to my preferences, click "raw signature", and type in the desired code under "nickname". For example, mine is

pinyin
You could use an online convertor or software. I believe you can type in the unicode manually, but that would be tedious. You can also check the bottom of my userpage, with the pinyin in it. If you see [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Natalinasmpf&diff=50953887&oldid=48919817 this diff] here where I just realised the source code wasn't fully in unicode, you can see where it had been manually put in before.
