lead layout

Hello again,

Thank you for the helpful links. I must still be missing something because I cannot find anything that describes how to create a lead layout. My attempts always include the title and lead layoout sections in the outline. Most of the Wiki advice seems to be centered on how to write lead layout, not on how to mechanically create one.

Thanks again for your time and help

Quick Question about Using Wikipedia

I see that you responded to my comment on here and I'm curious about it. Is the individual that 'left' and 'came back' the same person? Sorry, I'm new to this but it feels like people are playing 'characters' and not just editing an encyclopedia. Bigjake (talk) 03:48, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Pulling a Lazarus

Hey, regarding your late article Items in Super Mario Bros. -- why don't you get a friendly admin to resurrect the deleted article and have it sent to you? I've had that done with three articles that are now back on Wikipedia to stay. One of them actually wound up winning a DYK notice, too! If you want help in getting the article into Wiki-worthy shape, I'll be glad to assist. A luta continua! Ecoleetage (talk) 18:22, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

:You don't need to start from scratch. It is still there, just out of sight and out of reach. Get an admin like DGG or Xenocidic to forward the article to you or save it on your User Talk page; several admins are happy to dig up deleted articles and send them to their original writers. This way, it will be preserved and you can update and wikify it at your leisure. Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 18:27, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Your RfA

[http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3ADlohcierekim&diff=218221430&oldid=218065100 Thanks for your note. I was happy to support.] Some free advice-- continue to rotate through article building and the admin related areas. Look at the policies once in a while to make sure of your understanding of them. Be reluctant to block/report to AIV until the user is still going after a full complement of recent warnings. Be reluctant to delete/tag for CSD unless there is clearly no hope of salvage. Keep in mind alternatives-- improvement, sourcing, redirection, AFD, prod. Many first time article creators create what at first looks like CSD material, but a search for sources sometimes turns up enough info to make the article worth keeping. As you continue to edit, your understanding will become clearer to the community, and eventually the community will be willing to support. Hope that helps. Dlohcierekim 18:39, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

RE: Thank you

Hi there Tinkleheimer, thanks for taking the time to try and address my concerns, but unfortunately I think you only furthered them. I feel that building the community is a great and strongly encourage it, but the only reason community building should be done is to benefit the project (ie meet ups, IRC) and quite frankly at this day and age sign books do just the opposite and have lead to a community all right, but in no way one that helps to build a encyclopedia. As for the whole Jimbo argument I must say that just because Jimbo says does not mean it is right, or that I have to agree with it. I would also like to point out that Jimbo made that comment over 2 years ago, when sign books were not causing the issues they are now and people were not gamming Wikipedia and turning into a encyclopedia. Also, just because Jimbo said it is alright does not mean you have to do it. As for your team leader analogy, I guess I do not get it. I as a administrator gets blamed for the mistakes of my so called “employees”? How do we get the blunt of criticism any more than an active editor does? I hope you take this RfA as a learning curve and will be back even stronger than ever saying, “I told you so” Tiptoety talk 22:50, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

Can you help?

I see you were listed as a participant in the League of Copy-Editors so it seems likely you can ... The thing is the Military history wikiproject urgently needs prose pros to help with our best articles. Milhist covers a broad range of interesting and varied subjects from film to biography, battles to weaponry, and Roman emperors to twentieth-century dictators. In Milhist, A-Class has become the last port of call before FAC and we are looking for people to help identify prose and MoS issues at A-Class A-Class Reviews and help fix them prior to featured article candidacy. We also have a copy-editing section in our Logistics Dept and that can always use experienced copy-editors. For most of our articles, you don't need to be a specialist in the subject matter, just good with words.

If you think you can help, please do! Thanks for your time, --ROGER DAVIES talk 04:19, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. Re: "trolling", "rude and critical", etc.

Most of what I want to say is already on that incidents page. I was not attacking Schuym1 personally; I was merely questioning his motives, and especially his actions, first with the AfD tag, then his words toward me. I have debated other editors on topics (and articles) in the past, and I don't mind giving in or backing down when someone produces a convincing argument, no matter what their age, experience or position. ("I would give in to the editor's office boy, if the office boy happened to be right." - Ayn Rand)

Calling me a "jerk", dropping an F-bomb, then going behind my back/over my head to the incidents board, does little if anything to convince me he even has a point, much less is justified in placing an AfD tag on an article whose topic he admits he knows nothing about. What I see is a typical teenaged attitude of "If I don't know it, it's not important." I deal with that 'tude every week in my present job (I teach high school, among other things), and if a student knows a topic (or can explain it) better than I can, I make a point of bringing them up, having them state their case to the class, and praising them for it. Hardly the work of a "troll", I'd say. (At worst, I was filibustering him, or "giving him enough rope to hang himself" - which I'd say he did. Standard discussion strategy.) I do appreciate your qualifying your words, on the incidents page, as I said there. "This looks to me" is one thing; "this is" is another, and I'd say we both understand the difference. You didn't make an accusation, you expressed an opinion, and I'm OK with that. Zephyrad (talk) 07:41, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Archives

We made a new page just so we can archive these newsletters. Go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Nickelodeon/Newsletter. I felt that was a bit lengthy, so I made a shortcut just for it. It's WP:NICK/NEWS. I created that so, if our delivery boy fails, you can still access the newsletter.

Editor's note on the hiatus

The newsletter went on hiatus for around 3 months because I took a wikibreak to get away from all the drama on Wikipedia. Let me tell you, though: I'm back, and I feel better than ever. So don't expect me to put the newsletter on hiatus for a long while.

Yeah, someone told me that my talk page was in the category, so I removed it from my talk page and then looked at the other pages in the category to see if there were any that should not be there, and I removed them. Cheers! J.delanoygabsadds 18:40, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Your contributions make Wikipedia better -- thanks for helping.

New homepage!

----

We've redesigned the home page for (hopefully) the last time for a while. If you don't like the new design, the old page is archived here. To match the new design, the newsletter's format has also been redesigned. I hope you like it!

Note about member list

----

As the member list seems to have gone basically stale, I have removed all members from the list and moved the member list to a page that is transcluded onto the home page. Please DO NOT add your name to the homepage! Thanks!

{{Col-break}}

Sorry this issue is a bit late...

----

Personal obligations have overtaken my Wikipedia time, and I haven't exactly had time to send out this issue. November's issue is coming soon. I promise. :-)

Article of the month...

----

Every month, I choose an article that I think needs help, or is just plain interesting. This month's article is Nickelodeon Magazine.

Nickelodeon Magazine's article needs help. There are no sources. I know, for this page, it's practically impossible to get it to a FA, but let's imagine we're trying to get it to FA status. That will be a motive for us to add sources, improve the writing, etc. Let's work on this article for the wellness of it!

right

I found you at the now defunct League of copyeditors, and I am really hoping that you can help the article. The article failed an FAC mostly because of irregularities in citation format. But, it also needs a brush up on the copy and a proof reading job. Sorry for dropping in uninvited, but would you consider helping it, please? Aditya(talkcontribs) 00:18, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Nintendo task force membership

If you are not already aware, the Super Smash Bros. task force (formerly WikiForce Super Smash Bros.) has very recently been merged into the Nintendo task force (formerly WikiProject Nintendo). As a result, the memberlist of the old task force has been merged into the Nintendo task force's memberlist. In order to gauge who is still active and willing to participate actively in the Nintendo task force, I have placed all those members under the inactive participants list, which is located below the active participants list at WP:NIN.

If you wish to continue participation as a member of the Nintendo task force, then go to Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Nintendo/left panel, remove your entry from the inactive list, and place your entry at the bottom of the active list. If you don't wish to be a member of the Nintendo task force, then simply remove your name from the list. One month from now, on May 16, 2009, all remaining entries on the inactive list will be removed. Thank you, MuZemike 15:00, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

A note regarding the [[Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games|WPVG]] Newsletter

Due to an apparent lack of interest, the WPVG Newsletter will be switching from a monthly publication schedule to a quarterly one. The next issue be delivered on July 1, 2009, and will pertain to the second quarter of the calendar year. If you have any comments regarding this, or suggestions to improve the newsletter, please post at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games/Newsletter.

help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

Hi !

I am new to wiki so i hope I'm typing this in the right spot! I'm reaching out to other users for help. As I understand it, I need to track down an established wiki editor to help me rid the first article i've created ("Stone and Stone")of the ugly box that was posted on top "This article has multiple issues....".

I know exactly how these complaints came about. In my ignorance on how wiki works, I gave myself the same nickname as the subject I was writing on and then a whole drama ensued, as it was assumed that I was my subject and that I was writing an autobiography! In truth, I am a huge comedy fan and biographer and was dipping my toes for the first time in wikipedia waters!

Any help or solutions you could provide me when you get the chance would be greatly appreciated! This poor little article certainly doesn't deserve such an ugly heading box because of my wiki-ignorance! Thank you in advance for your time! Comedybiographer (talk) 10:52, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

You're invited to Wikipedia Takes St. Louis!

File:Flag_of_St._Louis,_Missouri.svg

{{{icon|30px}}}

Dust off your Polaroid camera and pack your best lenses. The first-ever Wikipedia Takes St. Louis photo hunt kicks off Sat, Sept. 15, at 12:30pm in downtown St. Louis. Tour the streets of the Rome of the West with other Wikipedians and even learn a little St. Louis history. This event is a fun and collaborative way to enhance St. Louis articles with visual content. Proposed deletion of Knight's Action Park

File:Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Knight's Action Park has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

:Notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ...William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 12:25, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

New deal for page patrollers

Hi {{BASEPAGENAME}},

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Reality television task force

Hello Tinkleheimer. I see you are a member of the Reality TV task force, but have not made any edits on Wikipedia in over a year. I have placed your name as inactive on the Project page and am leaving this message here for when you return to Wikipedia. WikiVirusC (talk) 02:43, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
