Do you know which Schnuck's you took that picture in front of? Cross roads would be fine.

French fried onions

What does "french fried" mean? Is it an actual culinary term? I've only heard it used for "french fried potatoes" (french fries), so I had removed "french" from "french fried onions" on Green bean casserole. I notice you re-added "french", so I'm curious if it's actually any different from just normal fried onions. -kotra (talk) 19:14, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes, "french fried" is a de facto culinary term. I suggest to observe how this product is labeled in grocery stores to see a usage of the term "french fried". Whitebox (talk) 06:57, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

:I see that since my original comment, fried onion and green bean casserole have been expanded to describe french frying a little more, and I also see from Googling that it is in fact a culinary term. Thanks for explaining! -kotra (talk) 07:19, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Slang

Back in January of this year, contributed a [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=IPodLinux&oldid=184405059 significant amount of text] to the article iPodLinux. A large portion of this text persists in the current version of the article. User 70.73.59.208 (Talk) [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=IPodLinux&offset=20081109&limit=1&action=history wants to tell you]:

: Please refrain from using slang phrases like "in a nutshell", it's unprofessional

~ 10nitro (talk) 18:06, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

It's a phrase used by a prominent professional technical publisher O%27Reilly_Media#In_a_Nutshell, though the article might be more universal without it. Whitebox (talk) 06:38, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Ajvar hot Podravka.jpg

Thanks for uploading :File:Ajvar hot Podravka.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 16:21, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

Not a typo

Hi, I'm just going through the history of Splashtop and saw your edit which you tagged "(minor typo fix)". For your info, "Mo" is the correct usage in computer science, and means "Megaoctet". It wasn't a typo; it was just someone being slightly anal (or maybe French). Sorry if this sounds condescending, I don't mean to be -- I'm just typing quick! Thanks!--Rfsmit (talk) 21:52, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:ColumnBrowseInOSX10.2.8.jpg)

25px Thanks for uploading :File:ColumnBrowseInOSX10.2.8.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You are now a Reviewer

File:Wikipedia Reviewer.svg

Hello. Your account has been granted the "{{mono|reviewer}}" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 01:07, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Ovalteenies tablets Philippines.jpg

File:Copyright-problem.svg

That image was created and selected for its genericness, and to the best of my knowledge also happened to include no registered trademarks. It also however had an obvious off tint to the lighting, and the page has now accumulated suitable alternatives. So uncontested. Also that image has been there for years, so the main reason you'd notice that what the file page specifies is abnormal is because you changed the tag first. Wikipedia Help Survey

Hi there, my name's Peter Coombe and I'm a Wikimedia Community Fellow working on a project to improve Wikipedia's help system. At the moment I'm trying to learn more about how people use and find the current help pages. If you could help by filling out [https://wikimedia.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_eri3eVaNSj7GWGw this brief survey] about your experiences, I'd be very grateful. It should take less than 10 minutes, and your responses will not be tied to your username in any way.

Dust off your Polaroid camera and pack your best lenses. The first-ever Wikipedia Takes St. Louis photo hunt kicks off Sat, Sept. 15, around noon in downtown St. Louis. Tour the streets of the Rome of the West with other Wikipedians and even learn a little St. Louis history. This event is a fun and collaborative way to enhance St. Louis articles with visual content. Novice photographers welcome! Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 07:49, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Won't be at that, but I'm adding at least one building on Delmar that could really use a photo to the category. Good luck to you all. Whitebox (talk) 06:48, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

Hand-coding

Hey all :).

I'm dropping you a note because you've been involved in dealing with feedback from the Article Feedback Tool. To get a better handle on the overall quality of comments now that the tool has become a more established part of the reader experience, we're undertaking a round of hand coding - basically, taking a sample of feedback and marking each piece as inappropriate, helpful, so on - and would like anyone interested in improving the tool to participate :).

You can code as many or as few pieces of feedback as you want: this page should explain how to use the system, and there is a demo [http://toolserver.org/~grphack/aft/test.html here]. Once you're comfortable with the task, just drop me an email at {{nospam|okeyes|wikimedia.org}} and I'll set you up with an account :).

If you'd like to chat with us about the research, or want live tutoring on the software, there will be an office hours session on Monday 17 December at [http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?hour=23&min=00&sec=0&day=17&month=12&year=2012 23:00 UTC] in {{channel|wikimedia-office}}. Hope to see some of you there! Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 23:15, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

Article Feedback deployment

Hey Whitebox; I'm dropping you this note because you've used the article feedback tool in the last month or so. Article Feedback Tool update

Hey Whitebox. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:38, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

File permission problem with File:Vess orange whistle soda.jpg

File:Copyright-problem.svg

Thanks for uploading :File:Vess orange whistle soda.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{tl|OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{tl|non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in [{{fullurl:Special:Log|type=upload&user=Whitebox}} your upload log]. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 19:56, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

[[Wikipedia:Proposed deletion|Proposed deletion]] of [[:Amighetti's Bakery]]

File:Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article :Amighetti's Bakery has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Notability not demonstrated. Tagged as needing better references since 2012

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.Fayenatic London 21:54, 11 August 2018 (UTC)
