Invitation to participate in a research
Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this [https://wikimediafoundation.limesurvey.net/962595?lang=en anonymous survey].
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
BGerdemann (WMF) (talk) 19:27, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

Sports links
Zyxw, I noticed your recent removal of the Sports links template on some American male artistic gymnasts (Alex Diab, Alexander Artemev, etc.) and was curious as to the reasoning behind your choice. GauchoDude (talk) 14:44, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
Links to ItsRugby.co.uk website
Hi there, I see that you have been changing the links to the [https://www.itsrugby.co.uk/ itsrugby.co.uk] website in the articles about rugby union players. You're linking to a different tab of the players' profile (the "by year" tab) that gives fewer details and less interesting stats about the player than the previous link (to the "team career" tab), so your changes aren't really helpful. Can you explain why you are doing this? Without a reasonable explanation, I'm inclined to revert your changes. Ruggalicious (talk) 11:51, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
: {{Reply|Ruggalicious}} I updated {{tl|ItsRugby}} so it links to the "team career" tab, which hopefully addresses your concern. I was updating external links to use templates where they are available, such as that and {{tl|ESPNscrum}} and {{tl|EPCR}}. There are many reasons to use external link templates where available, including the ability to easily update the URL if it changes (as I just did yesterday with {{tl|EPCR}}, fixing dead external links in over 300 rugby player articles with one change to that template) plus the ability to compare the player ID to Wikidata (which helps with fixing incorrect links here and in other language Wikipedias). -- Zyxw (talk) 12:14, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
::Hi, yes, thank you! Now that the template links to the "team career" tab, I have no problem with your changes. The usefulness of the It's Rugby website has decreased considerably since they started hiding stats behind a pay-wall, but at least some of the stats are still accessible and fortunately there are now other reliable stats sites that can be used to fill in the "blanks". [[Wikipedia:Proposed deletion|Proposed deletion]] of [[:Laura Robson (disambiguation)]]
The article :Laura Robson (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Disambiguation page not required (WP:ONEOTHER). Primary topic article has a hatnote to the only other use.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{Tlc|proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Noticed many of your edits today are to update the format of Instagram links, but I suspect WP:NOSOCIAL applies in many (if not most) of these cases? --ZimZalaBim talk 03:14, 30 December 2024 (UTC)

I think instead of adding {{tlc|FIBA}} and {{tlc|FIBA3x3}}, it would be simpler to instead add {{tlc|Sports links}}. Also, I removed some of the Instagram links you have added per WP:NOSOCIAL. Dieter Lloyd Wexler 21:52, 21 February 2025 (UTC)

Help regarding template:Sports links in tawiki
Hi Zyxw..
Recently trying to import the template:Sports links and associated modules. I am getting error "Lua error in Module:External_links at line 936: bad argument #1 to 'ipairs' (table expected, got nil)." Can you help me to resolve this issue. Would be of much help. Thanks -- Balaji (Let's talk) 14:10, 23 March 2025 (UTC)
IMDb as a reference
Hey, per WP:IMDB, IMDb links should not be used as reference. An edit like [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Edward_R._Murrow&curid=154143&diff=1283399467&oldid=1283018206 this] replacing the IMDb template with a cite web template isn't helpful. Instead it should be replaced with a {{tl|Citation needed}} template. Gonnym (talk) 10:49, 1 April 2025 (UTC)
Updating links
Hello. Instead of [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Mirra_Andreeva_career_statistics&curid=78850311&diff=1284566080&oldid=1283839847 this] and [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Anna_Kalinskaya_career_statistics&curid=78850546&diff=1284575356&oldid=1283839360 this] you should just update the WTA and ITF templates. What you are doing is impractical. And regarding the BJK Cup profiles, we can just wait until they re-appear. --Moscow Connection (talk) 14:14, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
P. S. I've checked, and the WTA and ITF templates work as intended. What is the point of your edits, then? --Moscow Connection (talk) 14:14, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
: The point was to remove the "Player Name career statistics" articles from Wikidata tracking categories (such as had already been done for the ITF template in some of the articles).
:* {{clc|ITF template with ID not in Wikidata}}
:* {{clc|ATP template with ID not in Wikidata}}
:* {{clc|WTA template with ID not in Wikidata}}
:* {{clc|Davis Cup player template with ID not in Wikidata}}
:* {{clc|Billie Jean King Cup player template with ID not in Wikidata}}
: While I was doing that, I also fixed a few non-working ITF links. Finally, the BJK Cup profiles do not appear to be coming back with the old ID numbers, instead there are new IDs for players in the BJK Cup since 2024 and the information for 2023 and earlier can only be found at the archived links (for examples, see Template:Billie Jean King Cup player which I recently updated to handle the new ID format). -- Zyxw (talk) 14:31, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
:* If someone's ID is not on Wikidata, that just means the Wikidata item is missing some parameter. The correct way to fix it is to fix it on Wikidata. "Mirra Andreeva career statistics" and "Anna Kalinskaya career statistics" are newly created pages. I've created them and created Wikidata items for them and didn't know any other actions were needed. The templates worked as intended, directing me to their profiles. --Moscow Connection (talk) 15:41, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
:* I did [https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q131722745&diff=2335926518&oldid=2296654188 this] on Wikidata. No error. Do this instead of removing the WTA, ATP and ITF templates on Wikipedia. --Moscow Connection (talk) 15:49, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
:*I've just noticed this edit of yours: [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:ITF_profile&diff=prev&oldid=1284589506 https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:ITF_profile&diff=prev&oldid=1284589506]. Thanks!
That still left "Chris Evert's Grand Slam history", but I fixed the error by adding her ITF ID to the Wikidata item: [https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q5106516&diff=prev&oldid=2335941682]. --Moscow Connection (talk) 16:57, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm a bit confused too. All these players had templates for ITF, WTA, FedCup that all seemed to be working, such as this [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Svetlana_Kuznetsova_career_statistics&diff=1284578344&oldid=1260420444 this edit] where all templates disappeared. Why removed the templates when it's usually easier to fix things at a single template than at every single player article. Fyunck(click) (talk) 17:59, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
And you added some pretty much useless templates also. There has been discussions about those external links being overbloated and about a 5 limit cutoff. Fyunck(click) (talk) 18:14, 8 April 2025 (UTC)
Thanks and a request
Thank you for resolving the URL display issue in Infobox person/Wikidata template. If you have time to look at another related issue, it would be appreciated. Using Wikidata generated infoboxes, I have not been able to determine how to prevent the inadvertent display of a duplicate entry under "Alma mater" when a person has more than one degree from the same institution (e.g., Francine M. Benes or Stefanos Sinos). I suppose that it would be fine to list multiple degrees from the same institution, but as the details and year might be needed to do this well, it is probably a more complex task. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 08:59, 22 April 2025 (UTC)
: {{Reply|Cl3phact0}} I replied under your post at {{section link|Template talk:Infobox person/Wikidata|Duplicate display of information}} to show an example of what Stefanos Sinos would it would look like if all qualifiers for each entry in Wikidata property {{Prop|69}} were displayed. -- Zyxw (talk) 07:28, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
::This looks promising, thank you. I'm certainly curious to see what others think. It's also very helpful to see how you make these improvements (and how straightforward it seems to be for someone who has these skills). I'm optimistic that this can help bring more editors to the realisation that it's better to refine and master Wikipedia/Wikidata integration than to abandon it (which, as another editor has pointed out, only serves to "disimprove" Wikipedia). Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 10:11, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
:::Although I have edited a lot of templates and some modules over the years, I am also figuring some of this out as I go along. For example, with {{prop|69}} for {{para|alma_mater}} in {{tl|Infobox person/Wikidata/sandbox}}, when I added {{para|qual|ALL}} to {{ml|WikidataIB|GetValue}}, I just copied that from how {{prop|166}} is used for {{para|awards}}. It was a faster solution than trying to figure out how to remove the duplicates (I'm sure there is some way to do that, but it might require adding new Lua code to the Module:WikidataIB). -- Zyxw (talk) 15:18, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
::::Noted. What's clear from what you're showing is that some (and maybe even most) of the problems that editors experience using Wikidata infoboxes (and probably other things that the data is used for in enwiki) are not inherent flaws, but rather bugs and irregularities that can be fixed with a bit of trial and error. Obviously, if the information in the dataset is wrong, no amount of reworking the template code here can fix that, but the other side of the coin is that by using the data, apart from potentially making Wikipedia (and the whole project) better, we can also help correct any errors we do spot on the Wikidata side. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 16:01, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
PS: Unfortunately, template editing and Lua coding are out of my wheelhouse at this point. I'll need to learn some new tricks before attempting either, but the value of those skills to the project is clearly huge. -- Cl3phact0 (talk) 16:03, 27 April 2025 (UTC)
Jean Rondeau (musician)
In my change for Jean Rondeau (musician), I explained that infobox person is better for classical people in music, - it provides a welcome tool to see at a glance if someone works in classical music or not. There have been project discussions. Please consider, compare Daniel Barenboim, for example. - I personally prefer it just for the cleaner look, without a distracting coloured header. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:46, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
: {{Replyto|Gerda Arendt}}. That's fine, I really don't have an opinion about one infobox being better than another. I edited that article because it was in {{cl|Pages using infobox person with unknown parameters}}. The unknown parameter was {{para|genre}}, which is available in {{tl|Infobox musical artist}}. I just went back and reverted it to Infobox person, with the unsupported parameter commented out. -- Zyxw (talk) 08:52, 24 April 2025 (UTC)
