Vaesite (NiS2) is a mineral found together with cattierite in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is named after Johannes F. Vaes, a Belgian mineralogist.{{cite journal | title = Cattierite and Vaesite: New Co-Ni Minerals from the Belgian Kongo | first = Paul F. | last = Kerr| year = 1945|journal=American Mineralogist | volume = 30|issue=7–8| pages = 483–492| url = http://www.minsocam.org/ammin/AM30/AM30_483.pdf|s2cid=51786115|issn=1945-3027}} It is part of the pyrite group.
