Vasil Timkovič

Vasil Timkovič (21 March 1923 – 2 January 2023) was a Czechoslovak veteran of World War II, who fought for the 1st Czechoslovak Army Corps in the Soviet Union in the Battle of Kiev and the Battle of the Dukla Pass.{{Cite web |title=Vasil Timkovič|url=https://www.memoryofnations.eu/en/timkovic-vasil-1923 |access-date=8 January 2023|publisher=Memory of Nations}} He was one of the last living witnesses of the fighting on the Eastern Front.{{Cite web |title=Zemřel válečný veterán Vasil Timkovič. Biography
Timkovič was born in 1923 in the village of Skotarskoje in Carpathian Ruthenia (then part of Czechoslovakia).{{Cite web |title=Vasil Timkovič (1923 - 2023) |url=https://www.pametnaroda.cz/cs/timkovic-vasil-20191207-0 |access-date=2023-01-23 |website=pametnaroda.cz |language=cs}}
Before joining the army, Timkovič survived a gulag. He was a veteran of the Liberation of Czechoslovakia in 1945.{{Cite web |title=Přežil ruský gulag i válku, domů ho komunisté už nikdy nepustili.
