Vild-Svinet (Danish for The Wild Boar) is a steel roller coaster at BonBon-Land in southern Zealand, Denmark, approximately {{convert|100|km|mi}} from Copenhagen. Vild-Svinet is the prototype for the Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter roller coaster model. At 97 degrees, the coaster is the steepest roller coaster in Denmark.{{cite RCDB |coaster_name=List of steepest roller coasters in Denmark |rcdb_number= |accessdate=24 August 2014 |url=http://rcdb.com/r.htm?na=&nm=na&pl=26269&order=-25&ot=2 }}

History and design

Opening on 16 May 2003,{{cite RCDB |coaster_name=Vild-Svinet |location=BonBon-Land |rcdb_number=2163 |accessdate=24 August 2014 |url=http://rcdb.com/2163.htm }} Vild-Svinet was the first ever Euro-Fighter model coaster to be built.{{cite news |last=Taulø-Jacobsen |first=Emilie |date=11 July 2009 |title=Tag en tur i sommerlandets bedste rutsjebaner |trans-title=Take a trip in the summer country's best roller coasters |url=http://politiken.dk/forbrugogliv/sundhedogmotion/guidersundhedogmotion/ECE749790/tag-en-tur-i-sommerlandets-bedste-rutsjebaner/ |language=da |newspaper=Politiken |publisher=JP/Politikens Hus |access-date=24 August 2014 }}{{cite web |url=http://www.gerstlauer-rides.de/references/reference-list/europe/denmark/vild-svinet-en-US/ |title=Euro-Fighter Vild Svinet |author= |website=Gerstlauer |access-date=24 August 2014}} When it opened, Vild-Svinet was the steepest roller coaster in the world (other Euro-Fighters would later tie its record) until its record was surpassed by Steel Hawg at Indiana Beach.{{cite RCDB|coaster_name=List of roller coasters by angle of first drop |rcdb_number=|accessdate=18 August 2014|url=http://rcdb.com/r.htm?na=&nm=na&pl=&order=-25&ot=2}} Vild-Svinet was also the first roller coaster in the world to have an initial drop steeper than 90 degrees.{{cite web |url=http://travel.uk.msn.com/inspiration/family/photos.aspx?cp-documentid=155079799&page=2 |title=World's wildest roller coasters: 13 Vildsvinet |last1=van Zyl |first1=JD |date=14 July 2011 |publisher=MSN Travel |access-date=24 August 2014 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20101102145633/http://travel.uk.msn.com/inspiration/family/photos.aspx?cp-documentid=155079799&page=2 |archive-date=2 November 2010 |url-status=dead }} The coaster has one inversion, a single vertical loop. There are also overbanked turns in the coaster's course. As with other Euro-Fighters, guests ride the coaster in single-car trains. Riders on Vild-Svinet are arranged in two rows of four. Vild-Svinet has generally been the most popular coaster at BonBon-Land since its opening.

Awards and reception

BonBon-Land and Gerstlauer were awarded the "FKF-Award 2003" by Freundeskreis Kirmes und Freizeitparks e.V. (Friends of Fairground and Amusement Association) for the construction of Vild-Svinet.{{cite web |url=http://fkf-award.de/front_content.php?idcat=51&lang=1 |title=Die Preisträger 2003 |author= |date=2004 |website=FKF-Award |publisher=Freundeskreis Kirmes und Freizeitparks e.V. |language=de |trans-title=The Award Winners 2003 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131104152719/http://fkf-award.de/front_content.php?idcat=51&lang=1 |archive-date=4 November 2013 |url-status=dead |access-date=24 August 2014}} The coaster was also ranked as the 3rd most innovative coaster of 2003 by COASTER-net.{{cite web |url=http://www.coaster-net.com:80/news/articles.php?itemid=175 |title=Most Innovative Rides of 2003 |last1=Olson |first1=Devin |date=20 June 2003 |website=COASTER-net |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20040803134658/http://www.coaster-net.com/news/articles.php?itemid=175 |archive-date=3 August 2004 |url-status=dead |access-date=28 June 2018 }} Frommer's included the coaster in their book, Frommer's 500 Adrenaline Adventures.{{cite book |last1=Friedland |first1=Lois |last2=Lallanilla |first2=Marc |last3=Swetzoff |first3=Jennifer |last4=O'Malley |first4=Charlie |date=2010 |title=Frommer's 500 Adrenaline Adventures |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=j7bcqQEMsV8C |location= Hoboken, NJ |publisher=John Wiley & Sons |page=408 |isbn=978-0470595039 |access-date=24 August 2014 }} Each award cited the coaster's steeper than vertical drop as being one of the primary justifications for Vild-Svinet's inclusion. Lonely Planet describes the coaster as "bonkers-looking" and notes that it is the most extreme amusement ride at BonBon-Land.{{cite book |last1=Bain |first1=Carolyn |last2=Booth |first2=Michael |last3=Parnell |first3=Fran |date=2008 |title=Denmark |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=m_gT1lQpZEAC |location= Footscray, Victoria |publisher=Lonely Planet |page=152 |isbn=978-1741046694 |access-date=24 August 2014 }}
