Rutgers University (RU) liaison librarians will participate in a project to evaluate the depth and authoritativeness of Wikipedia diversity content and identify content gaps based on the relevant Rutgers curricular; and work with Wikipedia editors to add reliable RUL licensed resources and digital content to close the identified gaps in Wikipedia articles. To that end, we will get familiar with Wikipedia editing culture and carry on this program to make our unique contributions to Wikipedia articles.

For selected topics, teams will work with our Wikipedia editors to:

  1. Narrow or refine the topic as needed
  2. Research how well the topic is covered in Wikipedia according to the criteria of: completeness, availability of substantive peer-reviewed resources, objectivity of approach
  3. Edit articles by addressing each of the above issues
  4. Add one or more articles as needed for topics deserving an article that are not represented in Wikipedia.

Selected topics

  • Women in Jazz
  • Newark Jazz history
  • Asian immigrant experience in NJ (Chinese and Japanese, include Chinese immigration to NJ, Seabrook experience, Newark Chinatown)
  • Cultural competence in health care

Get involved

If you are interested in contributing to the projects spearheaded by the Rutgers University Libraries' Wikimedian-in-Residence program, there are a number of different ways to do so. Those with a general interest in contributing may wish to contribute to Wikimedia Projects, and new users may find general information regarding editing and contributing to Wikimedia articles to be helpful (see Beginner's guide). Those who are specifically interested in working with the RUL by participating in a public outreach event such as an Edit-a-thon are encouraged to leave their user details below or to contact the RUL Wikimedians in Residence, User:Staticshakedown and User:WeijiBaikeBianji.
