Welcome to the Waterways of the United Kingdom WikiProject

...on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit.

; Goals

: Improve Wikipedia's coverage of canals, navigable rivers in the UK.

; Scope

: The project covers all articles about canals, navigable rivers and related features (locks, reservoirs, bridges, aqueducts, boats, people, etc.) located in the United Kingdom.

: To add coordinates and microformats as appropriate

Participants

You don't need to be British to help with this WikiProject. We welcome all registered editors good with layout and prose, and non-British editors who can point out when we've wrongly assumed we don't need to explain or define something for the reader, or failed to properly establish the context of an article.

Articles in need of attention

=Miscellaneous Improvements needed=

:*Great Western Railway

::*"GWR took over K&A", and "GWR owned 213 miles of canal". (Entire coverage in article!)

:*London Midland and Scottish Railway

::*doesn't properly mention canals, despite them closing many of them! (Doesn't actually cover railways that well, either!!!)

:*an unreference article, but I have put a hint of what happened to the canals in it and it is linked to British Waterways Board.

  • Charles Hadfield - needs Bibliography
  • Trent and Mersey Canal]] - copy edit; remove bulletted lists
  • Manchester Dock - Badly needs expanding, especially bearing in mind it has recently been unearthed.
  • Westport Canal little sub about a Somerset canal but I'm having problems finding any info about it.
  • Fens Waterways Link Overall map a bit like the one here (not diagram) showing route options.
  • Hugh Henshall - newly created, any help would be appreciated.
  • Louth Navigation - needs more detail
  • Humber - has hardly anything about shipping, or inland commercial working
  • Illustrations - most pictures seem to come from Geograph, which is good, but there is a contemporary bias. Historic illustrations add depth & interest.
