Reception
Carter Horsley, writing in City Realty, described the project as three "rather ungainly and completely dissimilar" towers. Ondel Hylton, also writing for City Realty, called the buildings' architecture "angular and somewhat tortured deconstructivist forms."{{cite news|title=From Trump Place to Waterline Square, Riverside South's Final Number Is Its Most Exciting Yet|url=https://www.cityrealty.com/nyc/market-insight/features/future-nyc/from-trump-place-waterline-square-riverside-south039s-final-number-is-its-most-exciting-yet/8581|work=City Realty|date=February 14, 2017|access-date=January 18, 2019|archive-date=January 19, 2019|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190119121214/https://www.cityrealty.com/nyc/market-insight/features/future-nyc/from-trump-place-waterline-square-riverside-south039s-final-number-is-its-most-exciting-yet/8581|url-status=live}}
Horsley described Three Waterline Square as "not pristine but at least dramatically interesting with its bold façades" and "the most attractive" of the three buildings. In comparison, he described the other two buildings as "rather awkward." However, Hylton called the building "drunkenly pinstriped."
Curbed New York included the Waterline Club amenity center on its list of "The most outrageous amenities at NYC apartments in 2017" for its sheer size and scope.{{cite news|title=The most outrageous amenities at NYC apartments in 2017|url=https://ny.curbed.com/2017/12/18/16743830/nyc-outrageous-apartment-amenities-2017|last=Walker|first=Ameena|date=December 18, 2017|work=Curbed NY|access-date=January 18, 2019|archive-date=January 19, 2019|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190119121141/https://ny.curbed.com/2017/12/18/16743830/nyc-outrageous-apartment-amenities-2017|url-status=live}} Justin Davidson of Curbed wrote of Waterline Square Park in 2022: "Finally, at least some West Siders got a better outcome than just the compromises that their ancestors negotiated."{{cite web | last=Davidson | first=Justin | title=Waterline Square Is Better Than We Had a Right to Expect | website=Curbed | date=July 27, 2022 | url=https://www.curbed.com/2022/07/review-waterline-square-riverside-south-uws-nyc.html | access-date=April 1, 2023 | archive-date=December 5, 2022 | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20221205073214/https://www.curbed.com/2022/07/review-waterline-square-riverside-south-uws-nyc.html | url-status=live }}
