Well engineering

{{refimprove|date=January 2012}}

Well engineering consists of engineering facilitating the design and construction of a well. It is based on pore pressure, kick tolerance, casing functions, casing design and cementing. It is sometimes related to drilling and petroleum engineering.{{cite web|title=Well Engineering and Construction|url=http://faculty.ksu.edu.sa/shokir/PGE472/Textbook%20and%20References/RABIA%20-%20WELL%20ENGINEERING%20%20CONSTRUCTION.pdf|publisher=faculty.ksu.edu.sa|date=January 25, 2011}}

Overview

Study of formation pressures is important for the safe planning of a well. Values of formation pressures are used to design safe mud weights to overcome fracturing the formation and prevent well kicks.
