In the 2011 census, the parish had a population of 170,{{NOMIS2011|id=E04007851|title=West Markham Parish|accessdate=5 July 2019}} and this increased marginally to 175 residents at the 2021 census.{{NOMIS2021|id=E04007851|title=West Markham parish|accessdate=25 January 2024}} The parish touches Bevercotes, West Drayton, East Markham, Bothamsall, Walesby and Tuxford.{{cite web|url=http://data.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/doc/7000000000007881|title=West Markham|publisher=Ordnance Survey|accessdate=5 July 2019}} The A1 previously went through the village but its now been bypassed.

History

The name "Markham" means 'Boundary homestead/village'. The name "Clinton" comes from the family name of the earls of Lincoln.{{cite web|url=http://kepn.nottingham.ac.uk/map/place/Nottinghamshire/Markham%20Clinton|title=Markham Clinton Key to English Place-names|publisher=The University of Nottingham|accessdate=5 July 2019}} Markham Clinton was recorded in the Domesday Book as Westmarcham.{{cite web|url=http://www.domesdaybook.co.uk/nottinghamshire2.html#markhamclinton|title=Nottinghamshire F-R|publisher=The Domesday Book Online|accessdate=5 July 2019}} The medieval village of West Markham is now unoccupied but still has earthworks.{{PastScape|num=1146154|desc=West Markham|access-date=5 July 2019|mode=cs2|fewer-links=yes}} On 1 April 1935 a part of Tuxford parish was transferred to the parish.
