Wevie Stonder {{IPAc-en|ˈ|w|iː|v|iː|_|ˈ|s|t|ɒ|n|d|ər}}
are a British group formed in Brighton in 1993. They have released 6 studio albums on Skam records, Sonig and Cack Records. The band's name is a spoonerism of American R&B and soul musician Stevie Wonder.
History
The band formed in 1993, when their first recording session resulted in a failed cover version of Stevie Wonder's “I just called to say I love you” and marked the birth of Wevie Stonder - a name which would go on to spark a fad of spoonerised names and puns in electronic music (such as Com Truise and Joy Orbison).{{Cite news |last=Muggs |first=Joe |date=2011-07-14 |title=Slick Jagger? Their first LP "Eat Your Own Ears" (its name later taken by the London-based promotions company){{Cite web |last=Buckle |first=Becky |date=2022-10-11 |title=Avoiding the obvious route: Eat Your Own Ears is celebrating 20 years of off-kilter parties |url=https://mixmag.net/feature/20-years-eat-your-own-ears-tom-baker-warehouse-project |access-date=2025-03-19 |website=Mixmag}} was released in 2000, and led to a series of records for Skam, radio sessions for the BBC, and live performances at electronic music nights and festivals around the UK and Europe - with their debut live show at Sonar festival, Barcelona.{{Cite web |title=Sónar |url=https://sonar.es/en/about/previous-editions/2000 |access-date=2025-03-19 |website=Sonar |language=en}}
After a very long hiatus, Wevie Stonder have a new album - "Sure Beats Living" - due for release in May 2025 on Skam.
