The Wiki Wiki Shuttle ({{Literal translation|Very Fast Shuttle}}) is a free shuttle bus service at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, Hawaii. Shuttles run between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. local time, carrying people and baggage between the various terminals and gates.

In the Hawaiian language, the word {{lang|haw|"wiki"}} means quick. In 1994, the shuttle's name inspired American computer programmer Ward Cunningham to build the first ever user-editable website, WikiWikiWeb.{{Cite news |last=Olson |first=Parmy |title=Whitman Gets EBay Users Mingling With Blogs, Wiki |url=https://www.forbes.com/2006/06/15/whitman-ebay-wiki-cx_po_0615autofacescan15.html |work=Forbes.com |date=June 15, 2006 |accessdate=2010-11-19|archiveurl=https://archive.today/20120530220124/http://www.forbes.com/2006/06/15/whitman-ebay-wiki-cx_po_0615autofacescan15.html|archivedate=2012-05-30}} Although WikiWikiWeb is itself no longer user-editable, the word wiki for a user-editable website thus derives from the shuttle's name.

Operations

In 2007, local media reported that the shuttle would be replaced by an air-conditioned walkway.{{cite web|url=http://www.kpua.net/news.php?id=13096|title=Honolulu's airport to replace Wiki-Wiki system|last=|first=|date=November 8, 2007|website=|publisher=KPUA Hawaii News/Associated Press|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20080421125936/http://www.kpua.net/news.php?id=13096|archive-date=2008-04-21|accessdate=2007-11-13}}{{cite news|last=Dingeman|first=Robbie|url=http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2007/Apr/08/bz/FP704080355.html|title=Honolulu airport getting $2.3B makeover|date=April 8, 2007|newspaper=The Honolulu Advertiser|accessdate=2008-03-12}} The first phase of this change was completed in October 2009, giving international travelers the option of an air-conditioned hallway with a moving sidewalk instead of the open-air buses.{{Cite news|last=Dingeman|first=Robbie|url=http://www.eturbonews.com/12281/international-arrivals-honolulu-airport-will-have-better-experie|title=New US$13.2 Million Concourse Opened Today|date=October 15, 2009|newspaper=The Honolulu Advertiser|accessdate=2010-11-19|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120303212659/http://www.eturbonews.com/12281/international-arrivals-honolulu-airport-will-have-better-experie|archive-date=2012-03-03|publisher=eTurboNews}}

The buses were formerly run by the Aircraft Services International Group. In April 2009, the airport signed a new contract for the shuttle buses to be managed by Roberts Hawaii, and the signage on the shuttles was changed to "HNL shuttle".{{Cite news |last=David |first=Mari-Ela |title=Hawaii Teamsters Allege Improprieties in New Wiki Wiki Shuttle Contract |url=http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/Global/story.asp?S=8145768 |publisher=Hawaii News Now |date=April 10, 2008 |accessdate=2010-11-19}}{{Cite web |title=Intra-Airport Transportation |url=http://hawaii.gov/hnl/intra-airport-transportation |work=Honolulu International Airport |publisher=State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation |accessdate=2010-11-19}}

In 2013, the buses were still or again in active service in Honolulu Airport,{{cite web|url=http://hawaii.gov/dot/airports/faqs|title=State of Hawaii, Department of Transportation|publisher=Hawaii Dept of Transportation|accessdate=2010-11-17}} but their usage was to be reduced for international arrivals as a result of the walkway that had been in use since the end of 2010.{{cite news|url=https://www.staradvertiser.com/2010/10/28/business/airport-adds-new-corridor-to-replace-wiki-wiki/|title=Airport adds new corridor to replace Wiki Wiki|last=Segal|first=Dave|newspaper=Star Advertiser|location=Honolulu|date=Oct 28, 2010 |accessdate=2021-05-17}} Despite this, new buses were added, and they were once more labelled "Wiki Wiki".{{Cite web|url=http://hawaiiairportsmodernization.com/3/what-were-doing-now|title=Hawaii Airports Modernization {{!}} Honolulu International Airport|last=|first=|date=2013-10-03|website=hawaiiairportsmodernization.com|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20131003031901/http://hawaiiairportsmodernization.com/3/what-were-doing-now|archive-date=2013-10-03|access-date=2020-02-11}}{{Cite web|url=http://hawaii.gov/hnl/intra-airport-transportation|title=Intra-Airport Transportation — Hawaii Airports|last=|first=|date=2013-09-27|url-status=dead|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20130927164034/http://hawaii.gov/hnl/intra-airport-transportation|archive-date=2013-09-27|access-date=2020-02-11}}

In 2024, the Hawaii Department of Transportation announced the addition of a zero emission autonomous electric vehicle called Miki, which would supplement the Wiki Wiki shuttle. Each vehicle can seat up to 11 people, including an attendant and are considered ADA accessible. The vehicle runs at a pace of 10 MPH. Miki is the Hawaiian word for agile.{{Cite web |title=HDOT launches autonomous electric shuttle at Daniel K. As of 2024, the buses are in service for both departures and arrivals.{{Cite web|url=https://airports.hawaii.gov/hnl/getting-to-from/ground-transportation/intra-airport-transportation/|title=Daniel K.
