- Keep
1. Sources have been provided, and while I can't find any guidelines as to notability for a competition, precedent suggests the bar is rather low.
2. If all of the countries involved have articles for their youth teams (except one), you would think a competition among them would have the same level of notability.
3. If we were to delete this, 2011 Caspian Cup would have to go too.
--BDD (talk) 00:06, 10 June 2012 (UTC) - Delete - no evidence of notability, fails GNG, and yes the other article should go as well - WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. GiantSnowman 18:04, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
- Delete - Unremarkable, friendly tournament for youth teams. Coverage is insufficient to meet WP:GNG. Sir Sputnik (talk) 22:04, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
- Keep - seems to me to just barely clear the bar on referencing and notability. - The Bushranger One ping only 06:28, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- Comment - I'm 50-50 on this one. While I agree with Bushranger, I don't think we have articles for other U17 friendly tournaments, do we? Maybe we would merge this with 2011 Caspian Cup into Caspian Cup? Mentoz86 (talk) 08:59, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- Move/Merge into Caspian Cup - Caspian Cup appears to meet WP:GNG ({{Find sources|Caspian Cup}}). 2011 Caspian Cup should be merged into Caspian Cup as well (and the lead tweaked). Wikipedia articles tend to grow in a way that lends itself to the natural creation of new articles. If the Caspian Cup article grows per Wikipedia:Summary style, then the subtopics can have their own article. The parent article for Caspian Cup would be Football in Azerbaijan, which should be edited to say something about the Caspian Cup. Of course, then there's 2012 Gabala Cup from :Category:Football in Azerbaijan. -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 15:14, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- Merge, along with 2011 Caspian Cup into Caspian Cup. I think what Uzma Gamal proposed is a suitable option. —Hahc21 15:32, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- Move/Merge into Caspian Cup along with 2011 Caspian Cup as per Mentoz86's suggestion & Uzma Gamal's rationale. ★☆ DUCKISJAMMMY☆★ 15:39, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- Delete but merge. Per WP:SPORTSEVENT at Wikipedia:Notability (sports): "The final series ["or single game"] determining the champion of a top league ["are inherently notable"]."(bold added by me) IMHO, it seems nearly self-evident that the under-17 "top league" is 'FIFA U-17 World Cup' rather than a lower "feeder league" of teams scattered about the Caspian Sea. It would seem to follow that deletion is indicated for both 2011 Caspian Cup and 2012 Caspian Cup. Support creation of new article 'Caspian Cup' and merge related events there. --→gab 24dot grab← 16:45, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
:*Comment - Isn't that a little out of context - WP:SPORTSEVENT is about single games, not tournaments? But yes, the text you copied clearly indicates that 2012 Caspian Cup Final is not notable. Mentoz86 (talk) 17:27, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
:::No, 'WP:SPORTSEVENT' explicitly includes championship "series" as well as single championship games. The article on Playoff format states: "Some of the most common are the single elimination, the best-of- series, the total points series, and the round-robin tournament." The linchpin of WP:SPORTSEVENT is not between "series"&"tournament", but between "top league"&"feeder leagues"; the 'WP:SPORTSEVENT' guideline tells us that a particular year's series/tournament is only inherently notable if it is for the "top league". So '2011 Caspian Cup' is not inherently notable (or notable at all IMHO), but '2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup' is inherently notable. --→gab 24dot grab← 19:32, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
- Merge into new article Caspian Cup. Spartaz Humbug! 17:38, 19 June 2012 (UTC)
