:Nominator's rationale: Per discussion from a similar category in the past(see Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_January_16#Category:Criterion_Collection) over 10(!) years ago. Although I admire the brand and everything it involves, the category is pretty much promotional for material for the Criterion Collection, its not the same as studio producing and developing films on their own. Basically, it's the same reason we don't have the category for Oprah's Book Club, etc. Andrzejbanas (talk) 17:06, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

• Delete: I created the category just earlier, and wasn't aware of the 2006 discussion until just now. Those who supported its deletion back then made some fair points. Personally I think it's a bit of a shame, as I find the category format to be far more navigable than the current list article for Criterion Collection releases, but the line must be drawn in the sand somewhere. –Matthew - (talk) 17:16, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

I understand your point {{u|MatthewHoobin|MH}} (and I own several hundred of their titles) but WP:CATDEF comes into play as a CC release is not a defining characteristic of the original film(s). • Delete :Category:American trade unionists of German descent
• Nominator's rationale In general we have gotten rid of almost all intersection categorizes between specific Euro-American descents and occupations. I see no compelling reason to categorize by this overlap. In this case all three articles are currently in :Category:German emigrants to the United States so a straight upmerge would only lead to category clutter.John Pack Lambert (talk) 14:50, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
• Keep and populate this and siblings -- This ought to be dealt with as part of a wider discussion of :Category:American trade unionists by ethnic or national origin, where the Afro-Americans, Italians, and Irish are well-populated; 6 Polish; and most of the rest under 5. Would such a category be useful to someone researching American trades-unionism? I recall that Carnegie's United Steel recruited immigrants from a succession of European countries to break strikes by his previous workforce. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:12, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
• Delete per nom - I'm not a fan of the WP:OVERCATEGORISATION that some like, and for this kind of thing we have intersection tools. More generally, the whole "descent" thing can be hard to source reliably, and it's debatable how relevant somebody's great-grandfather is to their activities today. Also the whole concept of "Germany" is kinda fluid before the 20th century, Carnegie's strike-breakers were not born in Germany as we know it.Le Deluge (talk) 19:19, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

• Comment intersection categories of these types need to stand or fall on their own. That for some other anceestry/ethnicity this is a notable intersection does not have any bearing on this. • Keep - While I have nominated more than a few tiny categories for deletion, there are exceptions to the general rule. Consider the following, quoting directly from the article itself: The blog (Native Appropriations) is "maintained by Cherokee Nation scholar Adrienne Keene" who "observes that Native Americans are barely represented in mainstream media..." Readers browsing either of the parent cats would have no way of knowing from the article's title that it is a Native American blog. The least we can do is facilitate that by keeping this category.
