:The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 17:25, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
:* Propose deleting {{lc|Vegan sportspeople}}
:Nominator's rationale: This is a textbook example of WP:NARROWCAT. There is no WP:DEFINING reason why being a vegan and being a sportsperson should intersect. --Tryptofish (talk) 19:01, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- Delete as non-defining.--User:Namiba 13:37, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Delete as WP:NONDEFINING- almost always, the fact someone is vegan and the fact they play sport are not in anyway related. Joseph2302 (talk) 13:43, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Delete As per reasons above Psychologist Guy (talk) 01:13, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- Delete in addition to being WP:NONDEFINING, it is also volatile: somebody can become a vegan, or un-become one, at any time.--Gronk Oz (talk) 12:54, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- Delete per above --Lenticel (talk) 00:39, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

:The result of the discussion was: rename to :Category:Scholars of the medieval Islamic world by state. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkltalk 17:26, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
:* Propose renaming :Category:Scholars of the medieval Islamic world by period to :Category:Scholars of the medieval Islamic world by location
:Nominator's rationale: rename, "by period" is confusing because one would expect e.g. century subcategories. "By location" is not very precise (an alternative could be: "by location or ruling dynasty") but at least it is more in line with the content of the category than "by period". Marcocapelle (talk) 07:36, 22 October 2022 (UTC)
Prefer:Category:Scholars of the medieval Islamic world by polity (or state). We have these split by empire/dynasty/caliphate/etc. Some of these may be successive rulers of the same area; others are rival states. Peterkingiron (talk) 21:01, 23 October 2022 (UTC)
:* These are ok too. I slightly prefer "state". Marcocapelle (talk) 05:41, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
- Support: There's also :Category:People of the medieval Islamic world by location that might need to be renamed for consistency. Would it make sense for it to be a parent of the nominated category? Al-Andalusi (talk) 19:05, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
:* Yes, for sure. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:31, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
:::See also :Category:Physicians of the medieval Islamic world by region. I vote for "by region" over "by state/polity" for flexibility, allowing us to add new categories like "Physicians from medieval Maghreb" in the future, alongside the state ones. Al-Andalusi (talk) 16:11, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
:::* I would oppose having any Maghreb category. In most of the Middle Ages there were quite clearly distinguishable states in the western half of the Maghreb and in the eastern half, while after the Umayyad Caliphate there was hardly ever a state that covered the full Maghreb. Marcocapelle (talk) 20:55, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
:::::A category for the Maghreb region would not be different from the Egyptian and Syrian categories that currently exist under some of the "medieval Islamic world" categories. I assume that Egyptian/Syrian/Iraqi refers to regions and they're not used in an anachronistic sense. Not that I support that. I really think we should keep the country or other semi-nationalistic categories separate from the new "medieval Islamic world" categories. Al-Andalusi (talk) 04:55, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
:::::* Of course they are used in an anachronistic sense. We do not call modern countries "regions" anywhere else in the medieval tree. For Egypt that is less of an issue though, because there has been a country centered in Egypt throughout much of the medieval times. Marcocapelle (talk) 06:08, 27 October 2022 (UTC)

:Nominator's rationale: I do not see any difference in these two categories, so I suggest to merge them Robby (talk) 09:30, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- Merge same thing. The only subcat in the "coaches of" category is already also a subcat of the other category. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:45, 2 November 2022 (UTC)

:Nominator's rationale: merge, redundant category layer with only one subcategory. Marcocapelle (talk) 08:56, 30 October 2022 (UTC)

:*Oppose: Category now contains :Category:Literature of the Almohad Caliphate. Al-Andalusi (talk) 04:52, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
::* That new category now only contains one book and a writers subcategory. If there isn't anything else to populate it with it is just making the category tree unnecessarily complicated. Marcocapelle (talk) 05:58, 31 October 2022 (UTC)
- Merge (also the literature category). This is unlikely to become large enough to need splitting. Peterkingiron (talk) 15:44, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
