:Nominator's rationale: I personally think that this might be over-categorisation. Having the separate categories for Japanese Wikipedians and Female Wikipedians is sufficient. No other category of this type exists. If this is to be kept, then I propose a rename to 'Japanese female Wikipedians' or similar. 'Japanese' and 'Wikipedians' should not be in lower case. :Nominator's rationale: There are many open CfD's right now, such as Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2025_March_30#Category:Monsters, several items at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2025_March_31 that are about specific mythologies, and Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2025_April_5#Category:Legendary_birds, that are going nowhere. This one is also likely needed to settle the monsters CfD.{{pb}}For my own perspective on this category, I interpret them as including mostly nonexistent species in folklore, and therefore the categories are redundant. But the birds CfD has not reached a consensus, either, on the merge target; this should be easier since there is no existent "in mythology" target. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 14:55, 13 April 2025 (UTC)

• Oppose - I'll agree that some sources can be pretty free with interchanging the two terms. But some sources do not. We should avoid WP:SYNTH. Add to that the issue that for some mythology is religion, and not merely folklore, and directly merging becomes very problematic. If you want to tighten the inclusion criteria, I would support merging both to: :Category:Legendary creatures in mythology, and prune as necessary. That way we are better covering how these creatures are presented in source material (in some cases, going back thousands of years). - jc37 15:12, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
• Oppose both nom and Jc37 for exactly the reason that Jc37 mentions: mythology is associated with (extinct) religion, e.g. in Greek mythology, Norse mythology, Indian mythology. I would not oppose merging "legendary" and "folklore" if they both exist, but that is not the case here. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:21, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
