You might be getting confused with usernames and articles, when you're logged in you can create an article with (basically) any name, your username only limits you on what pages you can create in your userspace (all pages in your userspace have to start with User:). There are articles about other companies, but the username policy on promotional usernames applies to everyone. User accounts can't be deleted, but you're able to just stop using the account.
